A Brief Overview

This position is responsible for the day to day operations management of the Sterile Processing Department Services. Work under the direction of the Director, and in collaboration with the Manager and Director oversee, manage and evaluate the functions of Sterile Processing Services for the above mentioned entity. Support safe patient care and operational efficiency.

What you will do

  • Continuously assesses and ensures improvement of the department performance based on "customer needs."

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services, ensuring they are compatible with the function and goals of SHC.

  • Develops and recommends appropriate organizational charts, job descriptions and departmental orientation (in conjunction with the SPD Educator) to meet the goals and objectives of the assigned areas.

  • Evaluates staffing requirements for the department, ensuring a sufficient number of qualified, competent persons are available to provide services.

  • Helps develop and oversee an effective system of information, records and reports for assigned department, utilizing appropriate manual or electronic system.

  • Maintains operational statistics and prepares reports as requested by Director.

  • Mentors Supervisory personnel to effectively coach, orient, and provide feedback to departmental personnel.

  • Must be familiar with operation of decontamination, cleaning and sterilization equipment, Departmental Standards of Operation, Policy and Procedures and Human Resources.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of department performance improvement activities by facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration, using Performance Improvement and Continuous Quality Improvement methods and tools.

  • Performs duties as assigned, following the policy and procedures of Stanford Hospital and Clinics and the Sterile Processing Department.

  • Recommends hires, merit pay increases, and promotions. Supervises and evaluates annual performance for Procurement Assistant, and all Supervisory personnel.

  • Researches and reports on budget variances and implements corrective action.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university.

Experience Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible directly related work experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels and in situations requiring instructing, persuading, negotiating, conflict resolution, consulting and advising as well as prepare clear, comprehensive written and oral reports and materials

  • Ability to manage complex projects and resources (people, costs, and time) across multiple departments

  • Knowledge and understanding of needs, goals, deliverables and interdependencies of other functional organizations

  • Knowledge of Instrument Assembly /Case Cart and Supply Processing

  • Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes

  • Knowledge of standard procedures and methods used to decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, store and distribute items and instrumentation within applicable Federal, State and other regulatory agencies

  • Knowledge of Surgical Instrument Care, Cleaning, Handling, Wrapping and Sterilization

Licenses and Certifications

  • CRCST - Certified Registered Central Service Technician or

  • CSPDT - Sterile Process/Dist Tech

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $62.69 - $83.07 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
