Matanuska-Susitna Borough Road Maintenance Laborer - Summer Crew in Palmer, Alaska

Job Summary

This position participates in the repair and maintenance of Borough roads and streets.

Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.

This position is for the Summer Assignment that starts April 1, 2024 through October 30, 2024.

Pay Grade

E1 - DOE

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.

One (1) year of experience in a similar position, sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid drivers license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer employment physical and Background check.

Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses in accordance with established Borough policy.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assists with repairs and installs street signs.
  • May operate a steam boiler to thaw frozen culverts and prevent glaciations and flooding; repairs and replaces culverts.
  • Conducts road striping operations.
  • Operates pumps to alleviate flooding conditions.
  • Operates brushing equipment; removes trees and tree limbs from roadways.
  • May operate street sweeping equipment.
  • Operates snow removal and plowing equipment.
  • Assists with repairs of asphalt and gravel surfaces.
  • Installs traffic control devices and flags traffic at worksites.
  • Transports tools, equipment and supplies to work sites.
  • Performs preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs related duties.
