Job Summary:

 

Senior Staff Accountant position to provide oversight for various accounting functions, including, but not limited to, gift and endowment funds, financial activity for the Paper Science and Engineering Foundation, and employee payroll and benefits. Prepare journal entries, as necessary, and various financial reports for the University. Coordinate monthly and year end close of the general ledger. Provide accurate and timely general ledger account reconciliations.

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

  1. Work closely with representatives from University Advancement to assist in maintaining financial records related to gift funds. Responsible for the fund set up and journal entries related to University gift funds.
  2. Prepare journal entries and timely reconciliations for endowment activity, including, but not limited to, monthly and annual statements related to endowment activity.
  3. Work closely with representatives from the Paper Science and Engineering Foundation (PSEF). Prepare journal entries and monthly financial reports. Work with leadership team and external auditors at year end and prepare annual financial reports related to financial activity for PSEF.
  4. Prepare monthly and annual journal entries for the University, including, but not limited to, payroll, prepaid expenses, employee benefits, and compensated absences.
  5. Assist with year end audit workpaper and financial statement preparation for the University.
  6. Responsible for accounting related to assigned GASB pronouncements.
  7. Coordinate monthly and year end close of the general ledger.
  8. Responsible for monthly reconciliations, including, but not limited to, prepaid expenses and employee benefit financial activity.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Accounting or Chief Accounting Officer.

     

Minimum Qualifications:

The position requires 5 or more years of experience as a Staff Accountant, Auditor or Accounting Supervisor/Manager and a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance and or general business.

 

Desired Qualifications:

CPA or Master's degree are strongly preferred. Experience with fund accounting in a university or similar environment. Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Experience with Banner Finance, Workday or other ERP software preferred. Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and FASB.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Requires a strong proficiency with PC-based software including an advanced proficiency with Excel and experience with other analytical tools. Excellent communication, analytical, time management and organizational skills are required.
