Job Description Summary

This position will serve as the Assistant Distance Coach and Director of Operations & will support the Head Distance Coach in all aspects of the distance running program, in both track and field and cross country. This individual will also handle various operational tasks to ensure the smooth running of the program.

 

 

Job Description

Essential Duties:

 

Training and Coaching:

  • Assist in developing and implementing progressive training programs for distance runners, tailored to individual needs and event specialties.

  • Provide technical coaching and guidance during practice sessions, including weight room activities and competitions.

  • Analyze athlete performances, identify areas for improvement, and adjust training plans accordingly.

     

Recruitment:

  • Support recruitment efforts by evaluating prospective student-athletes for the distance events and cross-country program.

  • Maintain recruiting databases and communicate with recruits and their families.

     

Team Management:

  • Assist with team travel arrangements, meet scheduling and logistical planning.

  • Help organize and manage meet-day operations, including warm-ups, event preparation, and athlete scheduling.

  • Collaborate with sports medicine staff to monitor athlete health and injury prevention strategies.

  • Foster a positive and supportive team environment, emphasizing teamwork, discipline, and goal setting.

     

Administrative Duties:

  • Assist with administrative tasks assigned by the Head Coach or Athletics Department.

  • Participate in fundraising activities, community engagement initiatives, and alumni engagement activities.

     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Previous coaching experience at the collegiate level

     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

  • Experience with video analysis software and performance tracking tools

  • Background in exercise science, kinesiology, or a related field.

  • Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles for endurance athletes.

  • Familiarity with sports psychology techniques for optimizing performance and mental toughness.

     

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Commitment to upholding the values of integrity, sportsmanship, and academic achievement.

  • Strong knowledge of training principles, techniques, and strategies specific to distance running.

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop high-caliber student-athletes.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire athletes.

  • Proficiency in popular social media platforms and creativity in content creation.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other team members and departments.

  • Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to recruiting, eligibility, and competition.

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record for travel purposes.
