University of Mississippi Network Administrator / University, MS in Oxford, Mississippi

This Position is for a Network Administrator with a public university work location in University, MS.

Definition of Class

This position supports the development and maintenance of network systems at the school and/or unit level. The incumbent provides technical support to network users.

This position is a Network Administrator for the Library Information Technology Department of the Library.  The incumbent is supervised by the Head of Library Information Technology.

Examples of Work Performed

Install, configure, and maintain servers, desktops, laptops, printers, and other hardware and software systems.

Install, configure, and upgrade software applications on user computers. Provide guidance and instructions to users on software usage, best practices, and troubleshooting common issues.

Monitor and troubleshoot system issues and perform regular maintenance tasks to ensure system stability and reliability.

Administer user accounts, including creating new accounts, managing access permissions, resetting passwords, and disabling accounts as required. Ensure user accounts are maintained in compliance with security policies and procedures.

Provide technical support to employees and students in-person and via email, chat, and phone.

Perform system backups and disaster recovery procedures and ensure that data is secured and protected.

Evaluate and recommend new technologies, systems, and tools to improve users' experience, performance, and efficiency.

Manage Active Directory and Group Polices.

Work with vendors to gather hardware/software specifications and pricing and part of the purchasing process.

As appropriate, coordinate with other campus technology units such as Network Services and Classroom Technology to support additional technologies deployed in the libraries.

Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

Develops and installs computer programs and network systems for individual schools and/or units.

Monitors operations and performs necessary maintenance to network systems.

Provides technical assistance to faculty and staff regarding network operations and capabilities.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field from a college or university.

AND

Experience:

One (1) year of experience related to the above described duties.
