This Position is for a Community Coordinator with a public university work location in University, MS.

Definition of Class

This position coordinates and supervises the operation of a residential hall community or an apartment area. This is a live-on/in position, which supervises the work of community assistants (CAs), graduate community directors (GCDs), and community desk assistants for a particular residential community or apartment area.

Examples of Work Performed

Supervises community assistants, graduate community directors, and community desk assistants for a particular hall community or apartment area

Conducts and performs evaluations and identifies development opportunities for student staff team members.

Assists in planning and conducting departmental training and development for graduate and student staff.

Conducts formal and informal assessments to determine the needs of residents and counsels students on the educational priorities of engaged scholarship and responsible citizenship.

Oversees the operational functions of a residential community front desk.

Coordinates response and/or resolution to resident concerns, including roommate conflicts, wellness issues, room and halls changes, and necessary student accommodations.

Creates sequenced, learning-outcome based community learning plans in order to foster resident connections using the residential curriculum.

Collaborates with faculty members to develop and implement various targeted academic initiatives within the residential communities.

Provides hands on leadership to ensure safety and comfort for residential students.

Completes regular building tours and conducts health and safety inspections.

Ensures proper management of electronic keys for student rooms, common areas, activity areas, and offices, etc.

Builds relationships with custodial and maintenance services to assure physical environment is maintained.

Responds to crisis or concerns and manages incidents that occur in residential communities by serving on a 24-hour duty rotation.

Serves as a hearing officer addressing student conduct for housing and university cases utilizing restorative practice principles and manages assigned case load within the campus student conduct software.

Advises a community council to engage residents in the hall community while providing leadership development opportunities to students.

Develops strategies that support and enhance the retention and graduate rates of residential students.

Manages a hall budget and adheres to proper purchasing approvals and procedures.

Serves on or chairs departmental committee(s) or task force(s).

Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

Fosters student and community engagement through the intentional implementation of the residential curriculum for an assigned residential community.

Supervises graduate and undergraduate student staff members and the daily operations of a residential community.

Maintains accurate administrative records and processes associated with running a residential community, including staff hiring, training, and development; student conduct and facility concerns; and budget management.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

AND

Experience:

One (1) year of experience related to the above described duties.

Substitution Statement:  Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
