University of Mississippi Asst Professor-Biomedical Engineering / University in Oxford, Mississippi

This Position is for an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering with a public university work location in University, MS.

Position Description

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Associate Professor level in the area of computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the areas of systems biology, network biology, healthcare informatics, artificial intelligence and/or machine learning. Outstanding candidates in other areas of computational biology and bioinformatics will also be considered.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to the computational biology/bioinformatics emphasis area within the Biomedical Engineering undergraduate program. Established in July 2019, we are the state's first and only Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Department recently completed a $1.3M renovation of approximately 10,000 square feet of teaching and lab space to accommodate our rapid growth. Another $2.5M renovation for 3,500 sq.ft. of new laboratory space has recently commenced as well. The University of Mississippi is an R1 Carnegie Classification university of high research activity. As such, numerous collaborative research opportunities exist on campus with the School of Pharmacy, the Departments of Biology and Chemistry, and within the School of Engineering. The University of Mississippi recently launched its Institute for Data Science with an investment of $2M. The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in nearby Memphis also offer collaborative potential.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline. The candidate will have already established a competitive research program or will possess the potential to do so. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate education, particularly in areas related to computational biology and bioinformatics.
