Our Special Education Teachers work in partnership with clinicians, daycare and educational staff to provide a cohesive environment where children learn through the most current best practices.

Starting salary range: $45,000-$50,000.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Support The Centers’ operations and personnel in a manner that reflects its values as defined in the Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles and Code of Conduct

  • Plan and organize individualized program for each child

  • Provide individual and group instruction; provide leadership and assign tasks to paraprofessionals in classroom, as applicable

  • Assist in interpreting the child’s Individual’s Education Plan (IEP) to treatment team and provide direction for carryover skills

  • Share the educational perspective on how to address children’s needs; facilitate weekly team meetings

  • Understand and utilize techniques of other team members in program design and daily activities

  • Utilize problem-solving techniques to resolve problems and come to conclusion with team

  • Accord respect and support to each team member

  • Keep families fully informed of issues affecting their children and the program by promoting open communication and mutual understanding

  • Provide support and information that families need either directly or by using team members, other resources from The Centers or community resources

  • Participate on multidisciplinary treatment team

  • Attend meetings as requested by supervisor and site director

  • Attend trainings required by program regulations, including OCFS regulation, and as directed by supervisor/site director

  • Prepare required reports, including quarterly progress reports/report cards for each child, and keep daily attendance records for each child

  • Prepare all required reports in a complete, timely and professionally written manner

  • Provide other reports as required

  • Travel to various locations within multiple counties, using own valid working vehicle. Must have a valid driver’s New York State driver’s license

  • Uphold standards of professionalism with regard to behavior and dress

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in Special Education or equivalency preferred.

  • Graduates professionally certified after February 2004, must be New York State certified for students with disabilities birth to second grade.

  • Experience with using behavior analysis in a classroom setting is beneficial, but no required.
