Summary

The IT Manager at Fairbanks Scales supports all aspects of the Fairbanks network infrastructure, server management, PC and printer support and general systems security. The IT Manager will direct and supervise the work of the support team, ensuring timely and skilled support response to user requests.

Essential Job Duties

  • Build, test and deploy physical network systems including switches, access points and internet gateway devices across all Fairbanks facilities

  • Develop and maintain VOIP systems, including procurement and deployment of end user devices

  • Provide for VPN and WAN connectivity

  • Build and support Virtual Servers

  • Ensure that appropriate System and Data backups are executed on a regular schedule and verify backup and restore capabilities

  • Manage user accounts

  • Support 3rd party system connectivity to Fairbanks networks

  • Write and support scripts and batch processes

  • Monitor network performance

  • Communicate with vendors to evaluate network and communications hardware, software and services as needed

  • Communicate with telco providers to procure broadband internet for all Fairbanks sites

  • Manage security, connectivity and general productivity software, including device drivers

  • Troubleshoot system failures or bugs and provide solutions to restore functionality

  • Maintain detailed inventory of all Fairbanks PCs and related hardware

  • Ensure appropriate security protocols are followed on servers and enterprise level services

  • Document network functions and connectivity

  • Support deployment of desktop and laptop PCs to various categories of users

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications - Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)

  • Bachelor of Science degree in network systems or similar degree or minimum 5 years management role as well as a technical role supporting networks and servers

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills and abilities commonly associated with this position.

  • Expert knowledge of LAN/WAN network connectivity and optimization including VLANs

  • Strong knowledge of security landscape, including types of malware, intrusion risk, detection and prevention, social engineering and end user security training protocols

  • Expert knowledge of server functions, including ability to create Virtual Machines, scheduled tasks, access authority

  • Thorough knowledge of PowerShell

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Intune AutoPilot

  • General knowledge of basic SQL server requirements

  • Basic knowledge of database systems, with focus on SQL database administration

  • Cisco and Cisco Meraki Gateway and switch appliance knowledge and management experience

  • Thorough knowledge and experience with Office 365, especially Skype and Teams

  • Thorough understanding of troubleshooting utilities and tools, virus detection software

  • Knowledge of ghosting software/utilities & data recovery tools

  • Excellent troubleshooting/problem solving skills

  • Very good communication abilities

  • Use of trouble ticket systems with ability to accurately document solutions

  • Exceptional organizing and time-management skills

  • Appropriate Microsoft, Cisco and Cisco Meraki certifications are a plus

Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.

  • Perform after-hours support including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
