Zurich North America is currently hiring a Cloud Architect and this person will work out of our Schaumburg NA HQ or remotely for the right candidate.

This role will be an SME for a ZNA public cloud architect function and the primary responsibility will be to design, strategize, and document ZNA’s implementation of public cloud services (Azure and AWS) and drive the adoption of new ways of working to increase efficiency, automation, code reusability, and security. The successful Cloud Architect candidate will have extensive knowledge across multiple IT disciplines such as networking, disaster recovery, observability and performance monitoring, security, containerization, CI/DC pipelines, identity management, IaaS, PaaS and other modern ways of working. The ideal candidate will possess very strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to work independently to research and articulate complex ideas and concepts as well as liaison with ZNA lines of business.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to operate in diverse professional environments, and demonstrate proficiency in operating systems like Linux, Ubuntu, Windows and Unix.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and administrators to help identify problems and brainstorm on desirable solutions.

  • Some level of competency or understanding of programming languages will be useful when researching how to apply newest technologies or during prototyping efforts.

  • Possess the capability to use technology to solve customer problems through end-to-end system design.

  • Maintain a level of expertise across both existing and legacy systems within the ZNA eco-system.

  • Competent in cloud migration across various scenarios (OS, database, networking, identity, etc.)

  • Network and data center expertise is a core skill necessary to drive design and strategy across ZNA’s hybrid environment.

  • Ability to build cloud solutions through safe, scalable offerings that meet business requirements. Attention to detail is paramount.

  • Possess strong communication (verbal and written), with capability to covey complex information in an articulate manner. Must be well organized.

  • Focus on continued professional development to maintain knowledge and application of current industry best practices and security concepts.

  • Exhibit an innovative mindset by suggesting improvements as well as designing and engineering related recommendations. Strong desire to learn, implement, and teach others in new processes and technologies.

  • Perform other tasks as defined, planned, and approved by leadership.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Information Technology and 6 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area OR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent in Information Technology and 8 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area OR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree in Information Technology and 6 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skilled and experienced architect with a strong multi-disciplined IT background

  • Proven experience as an architect, with a strong focus on designing and implementing secure public cloud solutions

  • Experience in public cloud architecture networking, security principles, protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), and encryption technologies

  • Familiarity with security frameworks and standards such as NIST, CIS, and GDPR

  • Some experience or understanding of software engineering, scripting, automation, and orchestration tools (Terraform, PowerShell, Ansible, GitHub)

  • Demonstrated experience designing, provisioning, configuring, or maintaining cloud computing services such as Azure and AWS.

  • Demonstrated experience designing, administering, monitoring, or maintaining both Microsoft and Linux physical and virtual based operating systems (cloud and on-prem).

  • Understanding of monitoring tools such as Dynatrace and ThousandEyes.

  • Experience in Disaster Recovery design and solutioning

  • Occasional travel may be required.
