Responsibilities 

  • Plan, organize, direct and supervise the department program which includes: recreational, restorative care, pastoral care, social work, music therapist and volunteers.

  • Implement and evaluate program relating to the five “P.I.E.S.S domains”

  • Coordi nate therapeutic program development and delivery in collaboration with those of other departments

  • Asses departmental needs and draft an action plan.

  • Complete Scheduling & payroll

  • Recruit/ coach, mentor and supervise departmental/programs staff

  • Develop departmental goals and objects.

  • Actively participate in program delivery.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor programming budget.

  • Create and update Resident Health Care Record as they pertain to the department (MDS experience an asset)

  • Coordinate the completion of MDS assessments on all residents whiting established timelines

  • Education Lead

  • Actively participate in the homes’:

  • IDTCs (Inter Disciplinary Team Conference)

  • PACC (Professional advisory care conference)

  • QIP meeting ( Quality Improvement Plan)

    Qualifications 

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university required

  • Knowledge of the concepts of Restorative care, Holistic care, Activation and Dementia Care

  • Minimum one year supervisory experience

  • Experience in planning, developing and evaluating effectiveness of individual and group programming for frail, elderly residents using an interdisciplinary approach

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and have a command of the English  language.

  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner

  • Knowledge of community resources, program development, MOHLTC standards

  • Previous supervisory experience in long term care an asset

  • At least one year of experience with seniors in an organized program or one year of experience with persons in a health care setting required

  • Experience or knowledge in recruitment, selection, orientation, placement and supervision of volunteers required

  • Sufficient knowledge and experience to coordinate religious services and spiritual care in a multi-faith setting required
