Waste Connections Heavy Equipment Operator in Ottawa, Ontario

We have an immediate position available for a Heavy Equipment Operator at our Ottawa Landfill in Navan, ON .

Summary: Under general supervision, the Equipment Operator operates various equipment including; dozers (D6 size), excavators, backhoes, front end loaders, dump trucks, and trash trucks.

Location : 3354 Navan Rd Ottawa, ON K4B 1H9

Pay rate : $31.77 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates dozers,

  • Operates backhoe, loaders and excavators as required.

  • Operates forklifts and dump trucks to transport trash and materials.

  • Operates various equipment for general site preparation, landscaping, snow removal, and related assignments.

  • Performs routine inspection and maintenance on equipment such as checking oil, coolant, and tires.

  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

  • · Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • · Occasional weekends when needed.

Minimum Job Requirements :

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  • Heavy Equipment Operator, 5-7 yrs minimum experience required.

  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment tests.

Working Conditions And Physical Effort:

  • Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, , dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.

  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.

  • Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.

  • Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, undercarriage, checking all fluid levels.

  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
