Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • Bachelor’s degree in educational technology or related degree

  • 4+ years experience working as an instructional designer in a higher education environment consulting with faculty on the design and implementation of online course materials.

  • Proficiency with Canvas.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design principles and models.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices related to the development and delivery of online courses, including knowledge of effective multimedia integration in web-based courses, web-based and multimedia tools and their use in online instructional materials, interface design principles to facilitate instructional effectiveness, and formative evaluation techniques and analyses.

  • Advanced skills in designing online curricula, including writing instructional design specifications and applying strategies to convert face-to-face instructional activities to online delivery.

  • Proficiency with commonly used e-learning authoring tools.

  • Efficient and effective verbal and written communication skills, along with organizational skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

  • Experience working as a Project Manager from conception to completion.

  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, including the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of clients.

  • Ability to work remotely, independently, with strong organizational skills and a focus on meeting deadlines. Will be required to maintain a remote office, with a physically safe workspace that is in an appropriate location for telework, with high-speed internet access, sufficiently free of distractions and with the ability to meet with members of the team and faculty clients during normal business hours (Central Time).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

  • Experience working with Open Educational Resources ( OER ) in the design of a college-level course.

  • Experiencing managing projects teams of 3 or more people.

  • Ability to work productively on multiple projects simultaneously.

Job Description

The instructional designer will collaborate with faculty on the design and development of curricula and coach faculty on topics related to learning design, effective teaching practices, and technology integration in all modes of instructional delivery. This position is contract and project-based. Applicants must be able to provide their own tools (computer hardware and software, internet connectivity, telephony, etc.) to be able to accomplish instructional design projects. While temporary space may be provided for face-to-face meetings, contract instructional designers will primarily be responsible for providing their own physical work space.

Job Duties

  1. Coach faculty on instructional design principles and processes, effective teaching practices, and the appropriate use of technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with faculty on the development of objectives aligned to instructional activities and assessments.

  • Collaborate with faculty on content generation, including editing and in some cases drafting instructional content.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional approaches and interventions.

  • Design and deliver faculty development on instructional design principles and processes, effective teaching practices, and the appropriate use of technology to enhance teaching and learning, and related topics.

  1. Design and develop media-rich instructional materials.
  • Perform front-end analyses, develop design documentation, conduct quality assurance reviews, and evaluate learning using formative evaluation techniques.

  • Research and appropriately integrate technology into the design of instructional materials.

  1. Effectively manage projects:
  • Develop high-level and detailed project schedules, track progress against milestones, and ensure that issues are resolved in a timely manner.

  • Ensure ongoing communication of project status to team members and management.

  • Proactively identify and manage risks to successful project completion and implementation.

  1. Identify design or process issues and analyze solutions to inform design standards, templates, and processes.
