Description of Department: EXCEL: Experiential Courses and Engaged Learning offers a variety of opportunities for students to earn academic credit through hands-on experiences. Internships, co-ops, service learning, and experiential courses provide students the ability to apply knowledge and theories learned in the classroom to "real world" businesses, non-profit organizations, and community agencies. Students can develop key competencies, explore career goals, and gain valuable professional connections through local, national, or international positions.

The EXCEL Office at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full-time Assistant Internship Coordinator.

Description of Responsibilities:

The Assistant Internship Coordinator will play a pivotal role in connecting students with valuable internship opportunities that align with their academic and career goals. This position will support students in preparing for credit-bearing internships and help them make the most of their experiential learning opportunities.

The assistant coordinator will work closely with key campus and external partners to prepare students for credit-bearing internships. These partners include (but are not limited to): internship sites, Faculty Sponsors, Academic Advisors, Career Services staff, International Student and Scholar Services, and Registrar.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Assist students with planning for and finding internships based on their skills, interests, and career aspirations

  • Conduct workshops and seminars to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for a successful internship experience

  • Mentor with Internship and Student Employment Coordinator to grow on-campus internship program

  • Review internship opportunities for quality and compliance with national, state, and campus regulations

  • Maintain an up-to-date database of internship opportunities

  • Assist cohorts with processes related to internship registration and completion

  • Assist with planning events to promote internships and experiential opportunities

  • Assist in the development and improvement of internship programs, policies, and procedures

  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices related to internships and cooperative education

  • Maintain accurate records of internship registration, student progress, and site supervisor interactions

  • Generate reports and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of internship programs

  • Support EXCEL programs, processes, and initiatives, such as events, programs, and site review

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience with planning events or delivering presentations

  • Demonstrated commitment to access and equity and the ability to work cooperatively and

  • effectively with various stakeholders

  • Positive attitude and excellent interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

  • Proficiency using Handshake or other career management software

  • Experience with internship coordination, career readiness, experiential learning, advisement

  • in an educational setting

  • Experience with program assessment and reporting
