Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Responsibilities You will serve as an ELECTRONICS MECHANIC in the COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT of the NAVAL RADIO STATION (T) JIM CREEK, ARLINGTON, WA. You will perform assigned maintenance procedures utilizing the Maintenance and Material Management system, carrying out preventive maintenance and repair on various electronic and electrical devices. You will use audio and digital communications system equipment interface devices, and operate and utilize test equipment. You will conduct routine tests and make preliminary test set-ups for journeymen. The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION such as: Experience applying knowledge of electronic principles and theory, typically acquired by the completion of a two-year vocational school or military school. Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, circuit diagrams, programmable logic circuitry, technical equipment maintenance and operation manuals, and specifications. Experience using a wide variety of electronic test instruments and using hand tools to include screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, drills, taps, dies, wire strippers, soldering irons, solder pots, heat sinks, and solder extractors. Experience being neat and accurate is required when working with delicate or precision parts of programmable logic circuitry. Experience applying computer literacy and using standard computer programs such as Word, Access, Excel, etc., and communicating both orally and in writing. Education Additional Information This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires rotating shift work. Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees. May be required to lift weights in excess of forty pounds with the aid of weight handling equipment. Must be able to climb vertical ladders and work in confined spaces requiring working in awkward positions. Must have good manual and finger dexterity for working on delicate equipment. Must have near and far vision, correctable by glasses, sufficient for reading small print is required. Color vision required in order to detect standard color code of wiring and electronic component identification. Ability to hear normal conversation required (hearing aid permitted). Required to stand eight-hour watches on a standard rotating shift. Employee is subject to recall without notice to work in the event of critical equipment casualty. Subject to sporadic high stress conditions resulting from equipment casualties. Occasionally will be required to work in areas with irritating or hazardous chemicals and fumes or which are oily, dusty, greasy, or noisy, including occasionally working outdoors in high and low temperatures and humidity. Spaces which are not well lighted, areas which cause extensive soiling of skin and clothes, areas which have unstable, wet or oily surfaces, occasionally works on roofs, scaffolds or platforms up to sixty feet above ground, works continuously in areas with high density radio frequency fields which causes stray but normally non-hazardous shock potential to exist. Works occasionally on incoming electrical power distribution equipment with potential voltages up to 4160 volts at 160 amperes. Employees are required to do cleanup work in their work area and other areas of the Communications Department. This is a Key Essential position. Incumbent must be removed from their military recall status if alternatives for filling the position during emergency operations are not available. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled.
