Precise Systems, Inc. Technical Writer - Journeyman in Orlando, Florida

We are seeking a Technical Writer, to support our team in Orlando, FL. The ideal candidate will be able to perform the following duties and meet the following qualifications.

+ + Looking for two journeyman-level technical writers to support contract with our Prime contractor as we are building and updating technical manuals and technical bulletins to support the Project Manager Mission Command program of the U.S. Army. We are a social and supportive team (we interact via MS Teams chat throughout the work day) poised to provide support and guidance to new technical writers as they become acclimated to the team and learn our methodology. Each of our four main areas of content we manage are staffed with a technical lead who will guide new writers in learning about subject matter, our contract commitments, and our method of authoring/editing content.

  • Writers hired from this requisition will gain experience in writing and editing content for hardware and software in the defense industry, authoring in XML, using electronic document/asset management systems, and understanding technical drawings/schematics.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Experience working with paper-based and/or electronic-based technical documentation.

  • Experience writing and updating technical manual procedures such as operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and theory of operation.

  • Excellent grammar and written communication skills.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Ability to track and comply with strict schedules.

  • Desire and ability to work in a team environment.

Desired Experience/Skills

  • Experience working with desktop publishing software such as FrameMaker, Arbortext, and MadCap Flare. (Arbortext Editor experience a plus).

  • Experience developing and editing XML content.

  • Experience authoring technical documentation in XML for Interactive Authoring and Display Software (IADS) integration a plus.

  • Operational and maintenance background in DoD Systems.

  • Technical Manual and/or training development experience on military systems.

  • Technical experience in operating and/or maintaining military systems.

  • Working knowledge of military documentation development standards [Military Standard (MIL-STD- 40051-1 and MIL-STD- 40051-2, MIL-HDBK-1222, and standard military writing and Quality Assurance practices.

  • User level experience with Military Technical Manuals.

  • Understanding of engineering drawings and/or wiring diagrams.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
