AdventHealth Orlando seeks to hire an Outpatient Diabetes and Obesity Health Consultant who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Facility Profile:

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed AdventHealth Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.

Department Profile:

AdventHealth Diabetes Institute is located on the Orlando Campus of AdventHealth. The Diabetes Institute provides a Nationally Recognized Diabetes Patient Education Services at seven of the AdventHealth campuses and AdventHealth Waterman. The institute provides comprehensive diabetes education classes as well as specialty individual counseling including insulin pump training and Medical Nutritional Therapy for those diagnosed with diabetes in the Central Florida Region. The Institute also provides an ongoing corporate diabetes care program that includes diabetes management and therapeutic lifestyle coaching as well as numerous community support group and cooking programs. The Diabetes Institute team includes RNs and RDs who are Certified Diabetes Educators and Certified Coaches.

Work Hours/Shifts:

Monday – Friday 8am - 5p; Occasional Weekends; Occasional Evening

Job Summary:

The Outpatient Diabetes and Obesity Health Consultant, under general guidance, is responsible for providing wellness coaching and education to reduce or eliminate high-risk behaviors in individuals with diabetes, prediabetes or obesity. Adheres to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of applicable local, state and federal agencies and regulatory bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility for maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Knowledge of diabetes concepts

  • Knowledge of lifestyle-related topics such as weight management, stress reduction and chronic conditions

  • Ability to communicate effectively and organize daily activities

  • Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

  • Ability to work with patients of diverse ages and backgrounds

  • Current CPR

  • Bi-lingual: English required/Spanish (Preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree in health promotion, health education, exercise physiology, nutrition or related field

  • Two years of experience as a wellness coach, personal trainer or health educator

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Certification from a professional wellness coach training program such as Certified Health Coach (CHC) issued by the National Society of Health Coaches (Preferred)

Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior AdventHealth’s Core Values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program

  • Provides wellness coaching and education to reduce or eliminate high-risk behaviors in individuals with diabetes, prediabetes or obesity

  • Develops and implements strategies and programs for various populations with a primary focus of diabetes risk reduction

  • Develops required educational and marketing materials in collaboration with marketing

  • Develops and implements strategies for marketing programs to the community

  • Develops customized care plans that encourage adoption of habits conducive to a higher quality of life and include goals and plan of action

  • Coordinates program activities in collaboration with AdventHealth and FHMG teams to provide cohesive, well-coordinated programs

  • Serves as a patient advocate and facilitator during program participation

  • Provides diabetes education in group and individual sessions as requested

  • Participates in community activities as requested, such as, presenting educational lectures and assisting with support groups for the community in general.
