The Opportunity

This position works in the Abbott Heart Failure, Acelis Connected Health business. Our Heart Failure solutions are helping address some of the World’s greatest healthcare challenges.

As an associate buyer, you’ll have the chance to provide support for purchasing, planning, and buying activities. Including but not limited to vendor management, price, utilization of the purchasing system, expedition of orders, vendor relations. Activities include obtaining quotations, generating purchase orders, scheduling deliveries, and other procurement/planning activities.

Principal Responsibilities

Accountability:

  • Works in conjunction with management to negotiate and manage long term contracts which are not managed by the commodity management teams, within established limitations and scope of authority to obtain the most favorable business partnerships, including but not limited to quality, availability and cost.

  • Plans and schedules deliveries to optimize inventories in support of production schedules/business demands by working with forecasting data/teams, planning teams, commodity teams and shipping/receiving teams.

  • Reviews purchase requisitions and confers with vendors to obtain product information such as price, availability and delivery schedule, reviewing quotes for accuracy and competitive strategies.

  • Executes process and procedure best practices by partnering with other functional leadership with the related product lines. Work in conjunction with management to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Facilitates vendor corrective action and partners with SQE and suppliers to improve quality.

  • Participates in Research and Development projects, assisting in development and implementation of action plans to support requirements bringing new products expeditiously to market.

  • Recommends pricing strategies to achieve department operating goals.

  • Creates and maintains mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with suppliers to foster feedback and continuous improvement, occasionally being the primary source of contact for the vendor.

  • Investigates and recommends new vendors.

  • Monitors supplier performance, communicates with leadership and takes action to maintain high levels of supplier performance as required.

  • Maintains and updates supplier databases as required.

  • Performs data analysis to proactively plan or resolve issues.

  • Works with inventory management/warehouse management to resolve issues.

  • Lead special projects as requested to reduce cost, increase efficiency, etc.

  • May process some or all of the following: rejected components/corrective action, returns, debit memos, etc.

  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.

  • Maintains positive, cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 yr experience in progressively responsible experience in purchasing/supplier management.

  • Understanding of purchasing, planning, inventory management, and production principles.

  • Proficient in MS office applications. such as, Excel and Word

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree in business or related field

  • Experience in negotiating purchasing agreement terms.

  • Experience working within a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model.

  • APICS and/or other Purchasing certifications (CPM)

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in fast paced, changing environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels across the organization.

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work at a computer workstation for extended periods of time

  • No lifting over 10 pounds required without assistance

The base pay for this position is $57,300.00 – $114,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
