Village of Orland Park Part Time Maintenance Worker II (Streets) in Orland Park, Illinois

Opportunity at a Glance

The Village of Orland Park Public Works Department currently seeks a detail-oriented individual to perform general maintenance and construction tasks relative to the Village owned roadways and related appurtenances, and non-CDL snow removal duties for all buildings and grounds owned by the Village. Work performed is of varied difficulty and is reviewed for progress and conformance to established standards by the Director of Public Works.

The position may perform the duties of team leader for other personnel. Under certain conditions, this position may be required to perform duties of maintenance personnel in other divisions.

Key Responsibilities

This position requires regular and consistent attendance.

Must be able to work a rotating schedule consisting of days, nights and weekends.

Depending on winter weather, work shifts may be changed for "after-hours", either in late evening or early morning to address snow accumulations.

Responsibilities include performing semi-skilled maintenance and construction tasks relative to the Village’s roadways. Examples include performing restoration work in right of ways (ROW), removing temporary signs (political, advertisement, for sale, etc.) from Village property, clearing debris/trash in ROW, and select weeding.

Additionally, this role assists with major programs by conducting sidewalk inspections throughout village to reduce tripping hazards, assist with signage replacement, tag assets to improve GIS information, and hang door hangers for major projects that improve resident notifications.

This position also performs routine equipment care like washing vehicles, note equipment deficiencies for mechanics, porter vehicles, perform custodial tasks with shop areas such as sweeping, mopping, and pickup and deliver materials and supplies as needed; performs non-CDL snow removal activities, including plowing, shoveling, and operating sidewalk snow removal machinery; and other duties as required or as may be assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

A High School diploma or GED certificate is required. Any combination of education, experience, and training that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above. A valid Illinois Driver’s License (Non-CDL), possession of a Class "A"/CDL Illinois Driver's Licenese is preferred.

The ideal candidate will possess working knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials and equipment; working knowledge of snow removal techniques, materials and equipment; skill in the use of hand tools and in the operation of gasoline and electric powered equipment.

The ability to diagnose equipment and mechanical malfunctions; establish and maintain effective working relationships; work within time constraints and to follow verbal and written instructions; maintain composure in emergency situations; and make accurate arithmetic computations.

This position supports various Village buildings and is required to work both inside and outside depending on the assignment. Employees in this position may be exposed to inclement weather, heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to frequently walk, perform overhead work, bend stoop, and kneel. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 40 pounds.

The employee will occasionally drive, sit, and use heavy machinery.
