Join the Village of Orland Park’s award winning Police Department as a Part-Time Detention Aide. The Police department is one of the most visible Village departments and works to keep the Orland Park community safe and oversees the enforcement of laws and ordinances.

Key Responsibilities

We are currently accepting applications for Male and Female Detention Aide(s) to perform technical work in the field of prisoner processing and identification. This position is responsible for the required monitoring and supervision of custodial detainees and the personal property of detainees. Duties include processing persons arrested; physically searching detainees upon their entry into the Detention Center and inventorying and storing any personal property appropriately. This position is responsible for feeding detainees and cleaning the lock up as needed which includes cells, toilets, and work area.

In addition, this position performs various clerical tasks related to the processing and control of prisoners including, but not limited to, monitoring and updating “live-scan” computer equipment, and related computer programs, accepting and processing bond payment, and processing detainee files.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

A high school diploma or GED certificate is required. College coursework in criminal justice or related field is preferred. At least 2 years of work experience is needed. Related experience and / or related training preferred. Selected candidate must have some computer skills along with the ability to perform data entry with accuracy. The ability to work under difficult circumstances and with difficult people is required.

Must be available Sunday – Saturday. Hours vary and include day, afternoon/evening, and midnight hours. Must be available weekends and holidays. Approximately 25-29 hours per week based on need.
