ASRC Federal Holding Company Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Orient Point, New York

ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. (1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT). Marine transportation furnished by Government provided ferry.

Summary:

Work as a member of maintenance team in support of all phases of wastewater and potable water treatment plants. Perform routine and non-routine maintenance and repair of mechanical components within wastewater treatment plant in an industrial setting. Ensure regulatory compliance integrity of all plant processes. Work tasks include preventive maintenance as well as repair services. Services are performed in support of a research facility on a continuous 24/7 basis.

Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Respond to facility outages as applicable and tend to mechanical components and issues.

  • Operate and monitor water and wastewater works, distribution and collection facilities including all start-up, monitoring, optimization, and shut-down procedures in a safe manner.

  • Obtain samples and analyze matrixes, make necessary systems adjustments to improve treatment and/or water quality; maintain records and logs of operations.

  • Maintains inventories of all raw materials and chemicals necessary to run the system.

  • Performs necessary tests to determine quality of water and adjust equipment to maintain it within specifications.

  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and working properly and that federal, state, and local water and wastewater standards are maintained. Assist in maintaining grounds, buildings & equipment at and around treatment facilities.

  • Connects hoses or couplings to receive raw ingredients from tanks or trucks.

  • Record daily chemicals usage.

  • Knowledge of the chemical compositions, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo.

  • This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.

  • Perform other duties as determined and assigned by the department manager.

Requirements :

  • HS Diploma or GED. NYS Class IIA Public Water. 2A / 3A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate.

  • New York State Grade C Water Treatment Plant Certificate.

  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your whole body.

  • Utilization of appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety shoes, hard hats, hearing, and eye protection is required. This is an industrial work environment that may include loud noise, heat stress, work indoors and outdoors.

  • Ability to climb ladders, reach overhead and lift to 50lbs.

  • Work schedule is subject to rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Must be eligible for PIADC clearance, possess a valid driver license and must undergo required physical examination and vaccinations. As a condition for employment, all personnel entering the BSL-3 biocontainment facilities at Plum Island shall not be in contact with specific susceptible animals and their premises off Plum Island for a period of five (5) days after leaving biocontainment. Currently, restricted species are cattle, sheep, goats, deer, other ruminants, and swine. Contact with horses, birds (agricultural and pet birds) and rabbits are normally permitted, but restrictions may be placed on staff working with or near contagious agents affecting these species. Restricted livestock or other restricted animals may not be housed on the premises where the employee lives and where the quarantine cannot be enforced.
