THE ONEONTA MUNICIPAL CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION ANNOUNCES AN OPEN-COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION FOR THE POSITION OF:<br> SENIOR ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT #85691<br> DATE OF WRITTEN EXAMINATION: May 4, 2024<p> APPLICATION FILING DEADLINE: Applications may be submitted in person at the City of Oneonta HR Office, located at 24 Bertus Lauren Drive in Neahwa Park, or may be submitted via mail to Oneonta Civil Service Commission, c/o City Hall, 258 Main Street, Oneonta, NY 13820. Applications submitted by mail must be postmarked no later than April 3, 2024. Applications submitted in person must be received at the HR office no later than 4:00 p.m. on April 3, 2024. Applications are available on our website, www.oneonta.ny.us/jobs or in person at the Human Resources/Civil Service Office. All applications must be original documents. We do not accept faxed, electronic or photocopied applications.<p> FILING FEE: A $15.00 non-refundable application fee, or an application fee waiver, for each examination for which you apply must be submitted with your application. Please submit a personal check, certified bank check or money order payable to the City of Oneonta. Write the examination number(s) and the applicants name on the check, money order, etc. Cash will not be accepted.<p> VACANCIES: The eligible list established as a result of this examination will be used to fill one vacancy with the Oneonta City School District, and any future vacancies that may occur during the life of the eligible list at the City of Oneonta City School District.<p>

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Candidates must be legal residents of New York State for a minimum of one (1) month immediately preceding the date of the examination. NOTE: The use of a calculator is RECOMMENDED for this exam. Candidates should bring a hand-held battery- or solar-powered calculator for use on this test. Candidates will not be permitted to use the calculator function on their cell phone.<p> DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves responsibility for performing complex duties and administrative support tasks to further the overall work of the school district. Incumbents typically serve in a confidential capacity and are typically assigned to positions within the district office. Incumbent assists district office staff and administrators with day-to-day operations and with minor operational problems. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Superintendent or designee with considerable leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Supervision may be exercised over the work of subordinates. Does related work as required.
