The Department of Human Ecology at the State University of New York at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Food Service and Restaurant Administration beginning Fall 2024. Expectations include, but are not limited to, teaching, research, student advisement, college service, and continuing professional development.

This teaching-focused position includes support for research and scholarly development; opportunities to engage with students, the University, and the community; and the ability to participate in program leadership and growth. The Foods and Nutrition programs, housed in the Department of Human Ecology, include an undergraduate Food Service and Restaurant Administration program, a minor in Event Planning, an accredited undergraduate Dietetics program, and an accredited M.S. - Nutrition and Dietetics program. The Department of Human Ecology offers programs in Human Development & Family Studies, Nutrition & Dietetics, Fashion & Textiles, and Food Service & Restaurant Administration.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching undergraduate Food Service and Restaurant Administration courses and other courses to meet department needs.

  • Teaching graduate food service and management courses to support the MS-Nutrition and Dietetics program.

  • Advising and mentoring students enrolled in the Food Service and Restaurant Administration degree and the Event Planning minor.

  • Participating in program development and assessment.

  • Engaging in scholarly, professional, and university activities.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Hospitality Management or related discipline. ABD considered; official confirmation of degree conferral by issuing institution by start of employment.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate Food Service and Restaurant Administration courses in at least two of these areas:

  • Food Production

  • Food Management

  • Events

  • Experience working in hospitality or related industries.

  • Evidence of scholarship and student advisement.

  • Experience working with diverse populations and/or teaching pedagogies and/ or multicultural teaching experience.

Additional:

  • Strong written communication and presentation skills.
