Mille Lacs Health System Pharmacy Technician Certified- Full Time (1.0 FTE) in Onamia, Minnesota

This position works in the pharmacy department under the direction of a registered pharmacist, providing services to hospital patients and providers.

Job Duties

The essential functions of this job are identified with an asterisk (*) at the end of the bullet point.

  • Technician will routinely complete two of the following responsibilities:o Prepare sterile parenteral products while adhering to USP 797 and 800 requirements. o Prepares chemotherapy while adhering to USP 800 requirements.o Controlled substance audit technician (less than 50% of time).o ADC assignment of medications.o Pharmacy buyer backup.

  • Manage and support automated drug distribution.o Medication picking, delivery, and restocking to automated dispensing cabinets (ADC).o Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment.o Delivers and restocks controlled substances.o Assists with returns, waste, and reporting/resolution of discrepancies.*

  • Prepares medications.o Prepares and select medications for distribution.o Assist licensed pharmacists in preparation/dispensing of prescriptions.o Performs bulk compounding.o Assists in managing drugs and vaccines for clinics.*

  • Inventory Managemento Monitors expiration dating.*o Performs cleaning.o Reports discrepancies or inaccuracies to pharmacist or supervisor.o Take inventory of drug stock, and prepare orders for vendors

  • Repackages and labels medications or splits tablets into bottles or unit dose packaging.o Creates labels using standard format.o Fills and labels prepacking medications.o Assigns expiration dates and maintains records.o Other duties as assigned.

  • The job responsibilities contained in this section must be supervised by a Licensed Pharmacist:o Accept new written prescriptions or refill orders.o Take refill request information from patient over the telephone, and process orders.o Contact providers for refill authorization.o Take oral, fax, and written authorization from provides for prescription refills.o Enter new/refill prescription order into the pharmacy software system.o Pick manufactured drug from shelf and fill/label prescription orders.o Count or pour the manufactured product into a suitable dispensing package and apply label to dispensing package with technician's initials placed on the label.o Present the completed prescription, original Rx order, and original stock bottle to the pharmacist for final verification/certification.

  • General Responsibilityo Assist licensed pharmacist in order to work effectively with the medical providers, and patients.o Work with the Pharmacist to prioritize daily technician duties/tasks.o Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as requested.o Must attend all mandatory department trainings.o Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.

    Required Education and Experience

  • High School or GED Required.

  • Must be registered prior to start date with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.

  • Previous On-the-Job training or experience may be considered in place of formal education.

  • Computer experience needed.

  • Must pass Pharmacy Technician certification test within 12 months of hire if not currently certified.

    Preferred Education and Experience

  • Certified pharmacy technician with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy, LPN Program, or equivalent Experience working in a hospital setting.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis position's regular workdays are Monday through Sunday. Occasional evening work may be required as job duties demand.

  • Must demonstrate complete criminal background check as required by the State of MN and drug screening per MLHS policy.
