Summary:

Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) is seeking a dynamic Supervisor to lead and inspire our Surveying and Drafting Teams, supporting Engineering and GIS operations. Responsibilities:

  1. Effectively apply OPPD¿s Management Leadership Practices (MLP¿s) in planning and assigning the work of staff members. Build and maintain a competent team through effective recruiting, selection, and ongoing development.

a. Planning ¿ Determine how to achieve the goals of the team by seeking input from the team and through effective metrics development, individual task assignment, and employee development.

b. Meetings ¿ Conduct managerial meetings with Surveying and Drafting staff on a regular and predictable schedule to provide clarity of tasks, deadlines, coaching opportunities, context setting, development, and to solicit feedback.

c. Coaching/Feedback for Competency of Role ¿ Provide coaching and feedback opportunities to staff to continuously improve their competency in the work of their role.

d. Performance evaluations ¿ Conduct and complete performance appraisal conversations and documentation requirements per defined schedule.

  1. Manage the training program for new and existing Surveying and Drafting staff to maintain an efficient team.

  2. Utilize their own technical subject matter expertise in coordination with the department Manager and all department personnel to develop and promote consistent, aligned solutions and project execution.

  3. Develop productivity and quality goals and standards for Surveying and Drafting. Ensure both teams are being held accountable to meet expectations.

  4. Establish standard operating procedures (SOP) as appropriate, and make sure teams understand priorities and workflows.

  5. Coordinate with team members to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner.

  6. Coordinate with other departments to ensure output from each team satisfy external needs.

a. Ensure surveyors provide Engineering and GIS accurate and complete data or staking locations.

b. Ensure drafters provide Engineering accurate and complete work.

  1. Coordinate with your manager and Technology & Security to ensure up to date drafting software tools, computer hardware, and surveying equipment for the teams. Ensure workflows change to match technology changes, increasing efficiency when possible.

  2. Collaborate with Manager of Geospatial Technology and Design Support on strategic direction of the design support teams.

  3. Develop and foster positive relationships with internal staff, vendors, and contractors.

    Qualifications

    Required:

  • Demonstrated effective analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, exercise flexibility, and take personal responsibility for assigned projects.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple projects simultaneously with frequent changing priorities.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite products.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver¿s license.

    Desired:

  • 5 years prior experience with surveying or drafting.

  • Prior leadership experience

  • Prior experience in electric transmission, substation, or distribution utilities.

  • Proficiency with Bluebeam and Ventyx (Asset Suite).

  • Familiarity with land survey methods, coordinate systems, and GIS systems.
