Omaha Public Power District Steamfitter Mechanic in Omaha, Nebraska

This role will be filled commensurate on experience at the applicable (Steamfitter Mechanic, Apprentice, Helper) based on the candidate¿s knowledge and experience. The position description used in this posting is representative of an Steamfitter Mechanic.

Summary:

Perform tasks required to successfully carry out the functions of the Steamfitter Mechanic group. Serve as acting working crew leader as required.

Responsibilities:

  1. Perform fabrication, installation, maintenance, inspection and/or repair of heat exchangers, boilers, boiler trim, pressure vessels, piping systems, and related equipment such as valves, burners, soot blowers, ductwork, dust collecting components, etc. Ensure proper documentation of maintenance work.

  2. Perform duties such as refractory work, boiler maintenance, building and grounds maintenance, carpentry, masonry, structural welding, sandblasting, rigging, etc.

  3. Operate cranes and heavy equipment and operate all tools and equipment pertaining to this department, ensuring proper care of tools and economical use of supplies.

  4. Routinely act as lead person in coordinating crew activities. Ensure productivity of craft employees when serving as lead person on job and assist in the training of new personnel.

  5. Perform assigned duties in a manner which complies with the District¿s safety procedures and keep work area clean.

  6. Perform tasks related to the use and handling of hazardous material.

  7. Regular and dependable attendance is required.

    Qualifications

    Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Requires a high degree of mechanical ability.

  • Must possess a valid driver¿s license.

  • Must have good communication.

  • A high level of teamwork.

  • Interpersonal skills.

  • Must be available for overtime work as required.

  • May be required to report to any job headquarters within the District.

  • Must take callouts.

    Desired:

  • College degree in an applicable field, (mechanical or welding), completion of a related industrial apprenticeship/training, (mechanical or welding), program or equivalent work experience in industrial welding and mechanical maintenance preferred.

  • Extensive experience in power plant maintenance work.

  • Ability to work from blueprints and drawings.

  • Valid asbestos certified worker.

  • Welding certification is highly desirable.

  • Class B CDL is desirable.
