Job Description

This position serves as the sole budget specialist for the Unemployment Insurance Agency, Unemployment Insurance Appeals Commission, Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration Radiation Safety, Workers’ Disability Compensation, Workers’ Disability Compensation Board of Magistrates, and Workers’ Disability Compensation Appeals Commission. Responsibilities include the development and ongoing monitoring of multiple spending plans with complex funding sources appropriated/allocated by the federal government and/or state legislature. This position will prepare and present financial information and complete associated activities including planning, development, forecasting, allocating, tracking, and reporting for each agency/program of responsibility. In addition, this position may be responsible for additional grants or initiatives that are applied for and received within the department. The position will also present and provide management with accurate financial information related to the division’s annual operating budget.

This position will assist the budget manager in the LEO statewide budget development process and assist with information requested from the State Budget Office. The budget specialist will prepare and enter in SIGMA Budget various budget development requests, such as appropriation validation, current service baselines, work project, enacted other adjustments, and boilerplate recommendations.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree or higher in any major with at least 12 semester (18 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: accounting, finance, or economics.

Experience

Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Financial Analyst; including two years equivalent to a Financial Analyst P11, Accountant P11, or Auditor P11 or one year equivalent to a Financial Analyst 12, Accountant 12, or Auditor 12.

Alternate Education and Experience

Possession of a Certificate in Public Accounting (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Financial Analyst P11 experience.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
