Position Role Type:

Collins Aerospace Landing Systems is seeking a talented Senior Design Engineering Manager who will manage a group of approximately 5-8 engineers with expertise in landing gear design. You will also support existing certified landing systems across several military programs, as well as supporting new programs and as needs arise. You will communicate and coordinate within the Collins Aerospace global organization with systems design, design analysis, in addition to reporting to program (value stream) organization.

  • The position is working onsite at our Fort Worth facility.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Directly contribute to, as well as oversee design engineering activities in the concept, preliminary and detailed design, verification and validation (V&V), and service support phases of the assigned programs

  • Oversee and lead design activities for support of existing product as well as development of product modifications for military and commercial propeller platforms. Typical activities include the following:

  • Engineering change management, reviews, and approvals

  • Work hand in hand with Project Management and VSL disciplines to achieve program technical goals and level of support.

  • Mentorship and development of team personnel

  • Manage Design Engineering inputs to Assigned IPT goals (i.e. EVMS tracking, control power inputs)

  • Supplier Designed Equipment (SDE) specification development for specialized mechanical equipment.

  • Perform necessary risk reduction relative to design development and qualification testing.

  • Participate as a key member of the Product Safety Review Board (PSRB) to represent design engineering for safety topics. This includes presenting any observed safety concerns for PSRB disposition.

  • Utilize CORE (Customer Oriented Results and Excellence) operating system as a foundation to support tactical and strategic activities.

  • Coordinate Landing Gear design activities both domestically and internationally

  • Contribute to improvement of standard work definition for common design activities.

  • Ensure engineering support for non-conforming part engineering analysis and disposition in support of supply chain and production.

  • Provide necessary input to supply chain to allow effective supplier transitions.

  • Assign design engineers to, and be capable of, troubleshooting complex hydraulic and mechanical systems issues.

  • Participate in establishing project budgets, cost monitoring, effectiveness improvements to optimize resources, prioritize spending, and ensure that business objectives are met.

  • Coordinate and work regularly with engineering, manufacturing, and management in Fort Worth TX, Oakville Ontario, and Poland.

  • Communicate and make technical presentations to senior level leadership.

  • Able to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally when circumstances permit.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications/Experience Needed

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum of 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and typically a minimum of 5 years of experience.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

  • Design mechanical experience

  • Experience with 3D modeling software

  • Experience working in a lead capacity on a project/program.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

  • Aerospace experience

  • Experiencing working in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience with CATIA V5

  • Master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering

  • Experience with aerospace design including (including DO160 Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Equipment)

  • Experience with hydraulic/mechanical control systems

  • Complex safety critical structure design and analysis experience

  • Fatigue life and structural analysis for complex metallic and composite structures

  • Full life cycle experience in design engineering from concept through entry into service

  • Experience with diverse international teams

  • Management/leadership experience

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
