The Joint Commission Corporate Communications Intern in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois

Overview

The Corporate Communications Intern will help advance and enhance The Joint Commission’s vision, initiatives, programs and reputation through internal and external communications support. Responsibilities include writing for a variety of channels and formats, communications planning assistance, and program implementation. The role also will help communicate and advance the organization’s strategic plan to internal stakeholders.

This paid internship is a full-time summer internship (40 hours per week), including two days per week in the office (Monday and Wednesday), located in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.

Responsibilities

  • Writing: Assist in writing a variety of communication pieces, including blogs, news releases, bylines and more.

  • Web Posting: Learn and use a content management system (CMS) to post blogs, news releases and media highlights to the website.

  • Communications Planning: Collaborate with team members to develop and implement communication plans and tactics for new products, services and other announcements.

  • Strategic Plan Support: Help execute the internal communications plan for the strategic plan to all internal stakeholders. Develop content for PowerPoint decks, internal memos, newsletter articles and more, as well as support related events.

  • Observation and Learning : Observe senior team members and actively seek opportunities to learn and improve. These insights will be presented and shared during a division meeting.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations or related field from an accredited college/university. Preferably Junior or Senior year.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. AP Style knowledge is a plus.

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

• Ability to participate within a multi-disciplinary team as well as act autonomously, when appropriate.

• Attention to detail and openness to constructive feedback.

• Ambition to pursue a career in corporate communications or public relations.
