Department: Central Transportation

Work Type: Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0)

Shift: Shift 1

Work Schedule: 8 Hr (12:30 PM - 9:00 PM)

Summary:

Under the director of the Manager of Medical Imaging/Cardiology and with general supervision of the lead techs, transports patients to and from all areas of the hospital Will assists in transporting equipment, specimens and minor clerical duties as needed in a manner that exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  1. Transports patients, and patient care equipment to designated areas throughout the hospital.

  2. Use EPIC Transport module to accept and record job assignments.

  3. Observes policies and procedures pertaining to safe bed operations, 02 equipment, stretchers, wheelchairs, lift devices and other patient care equipment.

  4. Observes hospital policies regarding Isolation precautions and required PPE policies.

  5. Ability to transport and treat patients with respect for their privacy and modesty.

  6. Transfers patients to and from wheelchairs, bed and diagnostic equipment using safe and ergonomic maneuvers.

  7. Physically move patients on an doff transport equipment. Assist the patient care units/department staff with transferring patients to and from beds to wheelchairs/stretchers.

  8. Maintains a safe, secure and healthy work environment in accordance with the hospital policies and complying with the governing regulations.

  9. Demonstrates behaviors necessary for age specific care and knowledge of decision-making process for all ages of population(s) served.

  10. Obtains appropriate equipment to accomplish task with minimal disruption.

  11. Deliver wheelchairs and stretchers that need repair to the designated area.

  12. Ability to cope with and manage change.

  13. Performs duties in accordance with HIPPA policies

  14. Train new Transport techs on all aspects of the jobs: i.e. equipment, Patient tracking via phone, recording job assignments, body mechanics, elevator etiquette, etc.

  15. To maintain self in appearance and attitude in a professional manner.

  16. To function under pressure when interacting with patients, co-workers, etc. under difficult situations.

  17. Transports blood products, surgical specimens, and/or other various supplies as needed throughout the hospital.

  18. Alert Security Department when unusual occurrences are observed.

  19. Performs related Duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Must obtain CPR certification within the first 90 days of hire.

Customer Service, Customer focus, and courteous bedside manner.

Excellent communications skills to work with patients, physicians and other hospital personnel.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• High school graduate or G.E.D.

Abilities:

Physical ability to help lift 50 lbs. and greater. Ability to push and pull patients and transportation equipment up and down inclines. Have the stamina to spend 90% of the workday on their feet. The ability to read and have basic computer skills necessary to utilize the hospital EMR to perform job duties.
