This position has the responsibility to create, develop, modify where necessary, implement and provide continued support for training processes, systems, programs and documentation used to support the training function at Baffinland Iron Mines, thus ensuring that development of employees is carried out in an efficient manner, resulting in well trained, safe and productive employees able to meet all requirements of their respective roles. This role is based at our Mary River Mine site on a 3week in and 3 week out rotation.

Main Accountabilities

  • Provide expertise and ongoing support to configure and use the Cognibox Learning Management System (LMS).

  • Train all site users in the use of the LMS in programs respective to different user levels and job roles.

  • Design and create report templates in Cognibox to meet the operational department’s requirements as well as the training department’s requirements when creating monthly, quarterly and customized reports.

  • Provide assistance with the Apprenticeship program, including tracking the status of apprentices by trade level, recording monthly hours, coordinating training.

  • Design and create training programs (e-learning, classroom, hybrid) for operation of mine equipment and other customized training programs required for the safe and efficient operation of the mine site.

  • Work with subject matter experts from the operation to build site required training programs.

  • Know, understand and utilize a variety of training program development software such as Power Point and Articulate Storyline.

  • Design and create safe and effective competency assessments to measure employee’s competency level to carry out the duties of their role.

  • Design systems, processes and documents to make the training department function efficient and smooth. Examples include: the onboarding process, training request process, process to train employees, process to conduct field assessments using digital technology, process to advertise training courses, performance review process and any other systems required.

  • Conduct on line research as necessary to create or enhance training programs, processes and systems.

  • Provide guidance for training development to third party training resources contracted to develop customized training.

  • Deliver training programs as required.

  • Support departmental coordination and administrative tasks as required

Main Qualifications

  • Specialization in Technical Training, Education, Adult Learning, Learning & Development or a related field.

  • From 7-10 years' experience with training program, development and learning management systems

  • Adult education certificate or degree

  • Knowledge of learning management systems

  • Knowledge of apprenticeship trades programs

  • Experience with training in an industrial or mining environment

  • Strong Results Orientation and Decision Making skills
