Reporting to the Power & Distribution Manager, the Junior Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting the department on engineering services and day-to-day activities with safety as a priority. This role, with guidance from the Senior Electrical Engineer, is to contribute to engineering services for electrical maintenance, improvements, and resolving emerging issues for the various mine facilities. It also includes contributing to initiatives of power generation, distribution and automation infrastructure. The Junior Electrical Engineer may support documentation and reporting for root-cause analysis, electrical drawings, schematics and other pertinent documentation in accordance with codes and standards.

Main Accountabilities

  1. Contribute to Baffinland Iron Mine operations and maintenance priorities as set by Department Manager.

  2. Support the Power & Distribution Team, including Trades, Superintendent and Manager to increase revenue, reduce cost, and enhance safety in alignment with the strategic plan, company vision and mission statement.

  3. Support site-wide electrical engineering services, including but not limited to:

a. Electrical Safety Program updates and implementation

b. Electrical Reliability issue investigation and correction

c. Power distribution (up to 13.8 kV), engineering, modifications and monitoring

d. Process control systems, SCADA and PLC design, implementation, troubleshooting, and optimization

e. Capital and Non-Routine projects design tasks and documentation

f. Preventative Maintenance (PM) procedures and templates development

g. Parts lists creation and warehouse inventory updates for critical equipment.

h. AutoCAD and ETAP (software applications) for electrical system documentation and analysis

  1. Support administration of AVEVA PI Vision, the data management and visualization software platform.

  2. Support the investigation of electrical and control issues to identify and implement reliability improvements.

  3. Support initiatives to identify opportunities for energy reduction and energy efficiency improvements.

  4. Support the development of department standards and performance requirements.

  5. Support inspections and planning of corrective measures in accordance with Canadian Electrical Code.

  6. Build day to day relationships within the team and with partners to enable success of business objectives.

  7. Present findings to Engineers, Superintendent and Manager.

  8. Support Planners to develop appropriate electrical PM’s for improved equipment reliability.

  9. Support various project administration tasks, including coordinating meetings, taking meeting minutes, forwarding communication releases, and perform maintenance of project tracking logs (i.e. issues, change control, etc.) in order to satisfy project management processes.

Main Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

• Eligible to register as an Engineer In Training (E.I.T.) within NU/NT

Experience

• Recent graduate of recognized electrical engineering program.

• Sound knowledge of electrical engineering theory and principles.

• Digital Literacy skills: Knowledge of digital tools and technology. Proficiency with standard office software such as Microsoft Office.
