News Corp Australia Corporate Legal Counsel in NSW, Australia

What’s the role?

Reporting to the General Counsel, News Corp Australia (NCA), this role advises the business on all commercial and corporate legal matters, particularly concerning privacy, marketing, data and procurement. It is not an editorial legal role.

You will:

  • Provide relevant, strategic and actionable legal support and advice as part of a small, agile, very high performing team

  • Apply an internal overlay to external advice received to ensure it is applicable to the business imperatives that NCA faces

  • Assist the General Counsel as required to ensure that the Legal Team operates efficiently and with strategic impact including (but not limited to) in relation to the following:-- External privacy requests/complaints and business advice on privacy and data issue

  • Marketing/consumer team content reviews

  • Procurement related advice

  • Contract reviews and drafting

  • Development of precedents and internal training materials

  • Collaborate with others in the Legal Team and assist with cross-over of work and overflow as necessary

Who are you?

  • Qualified to practice as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction - holding (or entitled to hold) current practising certificate

  • 3-6 years post qualification experience, ideally made up of private practice and in-house experience

  • Highly skilled in legal drafting, reasoning and analysis, written and verbal communication, and negotiation

  • Able to identify legal risks/issues and offer practical commercially appropriate solutions

  • Strong commercial and business acumen
