OxyChem is hiring at the landmark STRATOS Direct Air Capture facility in the Permian Basin, seeking those who can apply their technical, managerial, process and safety experience to an important new frontier industry. This is your chance to not only play a vital role at a 100 year-old company, but to also be a part of history. 

 

Direct Air Capture uses proven industrial processes to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) directly from ambient air. This CO2 can then be stored safely and securely underground or used to make things we all need in everyday life. These facilities are important because they help enable companies in hard-to-abate industries to reach their global climate targets. 

 

STRATOS is on track to become the world’s largest Direct Air Capture facility. Currently under construction, it is designed to capture up to 500,00 tons of atmospheric CO2 annually and is expected to be commercially operational in mid-2025. Oxy subsidiary 1PointFive will own the facility, with OxyChem responsible for its operation and maintenance.

Description

As the Millwright at our Direct Air Capture facility in Ector County, TX you will:

  • Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority
  • Monitor condition of rotating machinery utilizing parameters including vibration, temperature, pressures, flows and currents. Must be able to take field vibration readings, and understand basic data
  • Understand and assess the daily operation of various types of equipment including centrifuges, reciprocating and centrifugal compressors, conveyors, screw feeders, blowers, fans, and pumps and based on assessment, provide recommendations to improve reliability
  • Maintain equipment to design specifications including, but not limited to, centrifugal pumps, reciprocating pumps & compressors, fans, gear reducers/increasers & other mechanical equipment (valves, operators, testing tools). Replace pump seals, mechanical seals, and pump packing
  • Provide proper alignment for all rotating equipment
  • Perform preventative/predictive maintenance and troubleshoot problems
  • Determine material needs, sequence of operations, and job methods including the use of a computer for storing and using information for preventive/predictive maintenance and planning
  • Perform work associated with fabrication, assembly, disassembly and repair of vessels, movement and set-up of equipment

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
  • A minimum of 3 years mechanical experience in millwright activities in an industrial environment
  • Must be able to read process flow diagrams, P&IDs, mechanical drawings and follow mechanical specifications
  • This position requires proof of the NCCER certification prior to employment (maintenance or machinist preferred) or other nationally recognized and relevant certification in lieu of NCCER
  • Able to work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed to maintain a 24/7 operating plant
  • Ability to read, speak, and write English
  • High proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team
  • Must possess valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis 
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs., climb ladders and stairs
  • Walking, bending, stooping is required 
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator and respond to visual and audible alarms
