Chenango County Medical Office Assistant in Norwich, New York

Chenango County's Sheriff's Office has an opening for a Medical Office Assistant. This is a position in the Chenango County Sheriffs Office responsible for providing support to the physician and medical staff in the Correctional Facility Medical Unit by performing a variety of clinical, laboratory, and clerical tasks. The incumbent prepares patients for examination, takes and records vital signs, schedules appointments and maintains the medical record keeping system. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Jail Physician or Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with well-defined policies and procedures. Administrative oversight is provided by the Corrections Lieutenant. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of an employee in this class. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and EITHER (A) Completion of an approved* Medical Assistant Program; OR (B) Two years of full-time paid experience or its part-time equivalent performing clinical, laboratory, or clerical Medical Assistant duties in a clinical/health care setting; O (C) A license, limited permit, or eligibility for a limited permit to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State or Licensed Practical Nurse certification.*Note: The program must be accredited through the New York State Education Department, the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). The position has a 40 hour work week and starts at $22.21per hour in 2024 and includes a full benefits package.

A civil service examination will be required for permanent appointment at a later date. Position status: Competitive.
