The Arc Eastern Connecticut Maintenance Worker - Full Time (40 hours) in Norwich, Connecticut

Description:

Maintenance will be responsible for overseeing the regular maintenance and upkeep of all Arc owned/leased facilities. He/She will perform preventive and emergency repairs as needed. Under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer, he/she will ensure that all agency facilities comply with regulatory, fire, OSHA, and health safety requirements. They will adhere to the policies established by The Arc Eastern Connecticut Board of Directors whose goal is to maintain full community inclusion and integration for all individuals who are supported by the Arc.

Job Requirements:

  • Will provide in-depth monthly inspections for each residential facility and will forward a progress report to the supervisor.

  • Clean gutters as needed.

  • Assist with landscaping as needed.

  • Install and repair appliances as needed.

  • Will assemble and move furniture.

  • Perform general plumbing, electrical, carpentry (unlicensed work) as needed. Will schedule licensed personnel as necessary.

  • Will fix and replace ceiling tiles. Will patch roof as necessary.

  • Install and repair closet doors.

  • Repair broken windows and doors.

  • Repair and install internal and external lighting.

  • Perform interior and exterior maintenance as needed.

  • Will apply stain to decking as needed.

  • Will perform snow removal, sanding, and shoveling at designated Arc facilities in the event of inclement weather. Will ensure that all walkways are clear and free of ice hazards.

  • Will meet with Fire Marshal for annual inspections at the homes.

  • Will perform other duties as directed.

  • Will comply with OSHA safety regulations.

  • Will use personal vehicle as necessary/maintaining driver’s license, insurance and personal vehicle.

  • Demonstrates a positive work ethic.

  • Is able to work with limited supervision. Will keep supervisor informed and updated regarding on-going projects.

  • Advocates for and protects participants’ rights in accordance with Arc policies and procedures.

  • Treats all individuals in an age-appropriate manner, with respect and dignity, and to encourage opportunities that promote choice.

  • Maintains a professional and positive attitude when dealing with program participants, staff, families, the public and outside representatives.

  • Works with a spirit of cooperation with all departments.

  • Carries out all job responsibilities in a professional manner.

    Required Trainings:

  • Will participate in all DDS and The Arc New London County trainings as required by policy.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of two years’ experience

  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and insurance for duration of employment. They will be required to obtain pertinent certifications throughout the duration of his/her employment. Must possess basic competency in English (verbal and written).

  • Must have broad-based experience in the following trades: Carpentry, flooring, plumbing, electrical, drywall, appliance repair, snow removal, roofing, painting, and landscaping.

  • The Maintenance employee must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. They will be required to participate in lifts, transfers, and behavioral or physical intervention when necessary. They may be exposed to the risk of injury or exposure to occupational health hazards.
