PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Have administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for the functions and activities of the nursing staff.

  • Directs the coordination of all nursing services.

  • Acts as a liaison between the Administrator and nursing services administration.

  • Reviews State of Connecticut inspection reports with the Administrator retrospectively to institute a plan of correction as required. Monitors results.

  • Assists Administrator with ongoing updating and review of nursing policies and procedures to assure continued quality of care.

  • Maintains professional contacts with local community. Represents the facility to resident and their families.

  • Cooperates with the Administrator in the overall planning of the facility’s goals and objectives as requested.

  • Assumes any appropriate responsibilities and duties of the Administrator in his/her absence.

  • Calculates staffing levels for nursing services department as required by the State of Connecticut Public Health Code.

  • Assures coordination of nursing services department’s activities with those of other facility departments.

  • Maintains written position descriptions for nursing services personnel. Updates as appropriate.

  • Interviews, selects and appoints all nursing services personnel.

  • Interprets the facility’s Nursing Policies and Procedures for department personnel. Ensures implementation.

  • Responsible for yearly written evaluations and for documenting disciplinary concerns for all nursing services administrative personnel/RN Supervisors.

  • Makes regular rounds to assure optimal quality of care is provided.

  • Responsible for overall coordination of incident reports including notification of appropriate State Departments as required.

  • Reports to the Administrator any critical employee relations issues, complaints or unresolved grievances.

  • Investigates all accident/Incident reports.

  • Communicates issues regarding resident care as appropriate to the Medical Director.

  • Performs other duties and attends meetings as necessary and as directed by the Administrator.
