Intermountain Health Lead Medical Lab Scientist in Northglenn, Colorado

Job Description:

The Northglenn FSED fosters a collaborative environment where you can thrive, enjoy your work, and support your team. The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) Lead at this facility plays a unique and specialized role, serving as the subject matter expert for the freestanding lab. The MLS Lead oversees Point-of-Care (POC) testing and waived and moderate complexity tests while also being responsible for scheduling, training, annual competencies, and regulatory paperwork. At the FSED, all lab techs work to the full extent of their scope and assist in the emergency department whenever possible. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to, phlebotomy, IV placement, EKGs, rooming patients, and other tasks essential for ensuring the smooth operation of the ED.

Scope:

As a Lab Technologist Lead you need to know how to:

  • Lead the work of the associates in the department. Implement directives related to adjusting staffing levels based on service needs and volumes. Act as a resource technologist and provide technical support. Perform technologist duties as required.

  • Participate and lead quality and performance improvement initiatives. Teach new and evolving testing and technologies. Coordinate orientation and training of new associates. Ensure staff competency through proper training techniques and conduct quality audits.

  • Participate in problem solving to address issues relating to patient safety, care and service. Support and promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a department/unit team and interdepartmentally to facilitate that departments ability to meet its goals and objective. Collaborate with department leadership team to coordinate care with other departments and promote the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.

  • Participate in human resource functions. Participate in the interview process and provide feedback to leadership team on candidates. Provide education/training and performance feedback for associates in the department. Participate in policy and procedure development. Present and document staff meetings as required.

  • Monitor supply and equipment inventory. Notify leadership team of needed equipment repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance. Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or related science

  • Current Medical Technologist (MT) certification through ASCP

  • Minimum of four (4) years of hospital experience as a Medical Technologist or equivalent

Physical Requirements:

  • Interact with others by effectively communicating, both orally and in writing.

  • Operate computers and other office equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.

  • See and read computer monitors and documents.

  • Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.

  • May require lifting and transporting objects and office supplies, bending, kneeling and reaching.
