Saint-Gobain Sr. Supervisor, Operations & Maintenance in NORTHBORO, Massachusetts

Saint-Gobain Research North America in Northborough, MA is seeking an experienced Supervisor for the Operations/Facilities team. This position is responsible for managing the support function of the facilities operations and maintenance departmental activities in a word class R&D facility.

This individual will create a positive experience for SGR North America community stakeholders by ensuring that customer needs are met on time and within budget while adhering to all company, local, state, and federal regulations. The candidate will also participate in preventative maintenance, operational, environmental health, and safety (EHS), 5S, sustainability and other SGR North America initiatives as required.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Maintenance Supervisor with a demonstrated understanding of complex industrial/technical operations (preferably a laboratory or R&D environment). This position manages a preventive maintenance program to ensure all required maintenance is performed on building operating systems. Utilizes Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document and report on equipment performance and life cycle. Utilize data to maximize in house and contractor labor performance and development of budget for expense and capital replacement. Duties include but not limited to:

  • Lead or assist with projects for SGR North America customers: Understand needs of internal customers for space and equipment. Supporting the department’s preventive maintenance and on-demand work order request system; recognizing maintenance and repair problems, developing options for action, and recommending solutions to include preparing work orders, cost implications, sustainability awareness, and energy savings. Customers should be fully informed of all efforts throughout any work order.

  • Lead or assist with campus improvement projects: Under the direction of the Facilities Manager and in conjunction with other Operational teams, lead or assist with campus improvement projects including 5S, sustainability, security, EHS (environmental health and safety) as assigned. Follow and establish SOPs. Develop and implement new systems and processes to achieve reduced operating costs and improved process efficiency.

  • Facility maintenance including CMMS requests: Proactively address routine and non-routine infrastructure maintenance and repair including the grounds.

  • Equipment and material movements throughout the site and to off-site storage. Assist and cover conference room set-ups. Including testing and troubleshooting all audio video issues.

  • Back-Up Shipping & Receiving: Performs all functions associated with material movement through the NRDC shipping and receiving areas. Receive materials and shipments and distribute or store, package materials and shipments and arrange transport; all in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.

  • Hours and Coverage – Contributing to around-the-clock on-call coverage for all aspects of the Facility Group’s responsibilities. Addressing emergency situations in a timely manner, assessing the situation and impact, diagnosing issue(s), determining proper corrective action, securing replacement parts/materials, coordinating work, utilizing outside vendors as needed, and performing repairs while communicating the situation to site leadership for the duration of the emergency.

  • General Facility Work – Performing any other facility related tasks as deemed necessary by the department manager

  • BS Degree with a minimum of 10+ years’ experience, or MS with 2+ years of experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Facilities Engineering or similar field of study

  • 10+ years of experience in rigorous EHS environment

  • 10+ years of experience with building, fire, life safety codes and facility environmental rgulations

  • 10+ years of experience performing Facilities General Mechanical, HVAC, Electrical or Plumbing related work- Competencies

  • Good computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools; and working knowledge of Auto CAD

  • Proven track record of project development and management skills - organization, attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects concurrently, record keeping, flexibility

  • Experienced in collaborating with outside contractors and agencies to coordinate critical project work within regulatory requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, analyze, draw conclusions, and present data to various levels throughout the organization in graphical and other forms

  • Strong leadership ability - able to manage performance/expectations of team to include development of team members and ability to hold responsible for work

  • Massachusetts Construction Supervisors license (unrestricted) is preferred
