Responsibilities for Internal Candidates

  • To assist the Team Leader and other senior staff in providing transportation and highway advice for and on behalf of WSP’s local government clients in their capacity as Local Highway Authorities

  • Prepare and issue statutory highway and transport related responses to planning applications and all that this entails including site visits, layout assessment and any other matters relating to the planning consultation process including preparation of evidence and attendance at public inquiries

  • Carry out investigations, appraisals, analysis, briefs and designs, making use of computer aided design and office management software, over a full range of schemes to increase mobility, road safety, and accessibility, and to influence modal shift

YOUR TEAM

  • Your projects range from designing new highway infrastructure for developments to major sustainable transport improvements

  • Your clients are the many UK Local Authority framework commissions complemented by expanding relationships with other local and national agencies

  • This role reports to the Team Leader

  • Your team is comprised of Engineers in the UK supported by remote resources in India with expectations of significant growth this year – this worldwide representation brings a diverse culture to your team

  • Specific development opportunities include progression to higher grades within the WSP Communities and Mobility business as the team grows over the coming months

  • The Northampton office is in the Brackmills business park on the edge of town with direct access to the A45 and M1, a short bus ride from Northampton Rail Station or using the adjacent ‘Norbital’ cycle route

Qualifications for Internal Candidates

  • Experience of highway engineering and/or planning policies and the development plan process

  • Ability to understand Section 278/38 and Section 106 Agreements used in relation to Developments

  • Ability to understand technical and safety audit requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow technical, legal and administrative procedures

  • Experience of sign design using KeySIGN software and a good working knowledge of the Traffic Signs Regulation and General Directions and associated chapters

  • Experience of technical design (AutoCAD) delivery with minimal supervision in accordance with approved design procedures and systems

  • Experience of preparation of Bills of Quantities

  • Experience in preparing and presenting technical reports to senior managers

  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety including CDM 2015

  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or significant relatable experience
