The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting growth activities of suture extrusion, needles manufacturing, and automated assembly equipment. They will be responsible for the design and validation of polymer and fiber extruders, industrial ovens, winders, needles forming and grinding machinery, electropolishing equipment, high-speed assembly units, form-fill and seal packaging, vacuum chambers, and final packaging/labeling operations in Clean Room environments, under the site engineering for the sutures manufacturing growth team.

They will support strategic project initiatives of absorbable suture product finished goods and sub-assembly families with specific regard to equipment qualification, equipment upgrades, and implementing transformational technology changes into current process that directly improve OEE, output, yield, and cost savings opportunities. This role will be a point of contact for Capital Equipment upgrades, process development and process validations of new and current automated equipment. Duties include participating in cross functional teams to accomplish project and site-specific goals.

A Day in the Life

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will work with different functions within and outside of the organization to resolve complex problems and projects for which process improvement ideas are conceptualized, validated, and implemented. Duties include participating in cross-functional teams to accomplish projects and site-specific goals. Critical thinking, strong time management, and assertive decision-making skills are required to assign, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks with constricted timelines and schedules. An advanced understanding of engineering design principles, root cause analysis, daily troubleshooting, production planning, process control, data collection, and statistical analysis is required for the Senior Manufacturing Engineer to perform daily functions.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead and execute validation processes DOE, IQ, OQ, and PQ on new capital equipment

  • Support and/or lead the equipment acquisition process and work with vendors on Design Review, FAT, SAT.

  • Design manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling.

  • Design arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure the most efficient and productive layout.

  • Design sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.

  • Adapt machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.

  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.

  • Inspect performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigate and initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.

  • Develop manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.

  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.

  • Key participant in DFMEA, PFMEA, Machine Risk Assessments, and CTQ processes assuring specifications are well defined and documented.

  • Develop manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or Similar.

  • 4+ years of experience.

  • Dynamic, positive attitude.

  • Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Solid organizational, functional coordination and presentation skills.

  • Risk analysis, FMEA and root cause analysis.

  • Develops, coordinates, and conducts technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts and design of experiments (DOE) constructs.

  • Assist in creating equipment specifications to vendors for quoting automated and manual equipment.

  • Dynamic, positive attitude.

  • Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Strong communication, project management, and leadership skills.

  • Solid organizational, functional coordination and presentation skills.

  • < 10% travel to manufacturing sites and supplier visits.

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico and certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
