Job Description

The primary function of the Operations Department is the execution of the production plan and schedule adherence. The execution of the production plan must be done assuring optimum quality, in compliance with applicable regulations, at the lowest possible cost while maintaining a safe work place and highly motivated work force.

Superintendent Provides technical direction to a complex and diverse manufacturing environment to maintain product availability, maintain and enhance regulatory compliance, and optimize productivity. Manages activities and resources to ensure complete support from all areas is provided to meet manufacturing area needs. Coordinates Operations activities to ensure that facilities, equipment, and processes required for new products are developed, qualified, validated and designed for efficient manufacturability. Provide support to Operations in terms of Equipment troubleshooting, improvement ideas assessment and implementation and events investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for Operations. Assume total responsibility and manage all shift operation including Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Warehouse and Material/Inventory Management Systems.

  • Implement Engineering solutions to improve Plant Safety, Quality and Financial Performance. Drives functional performance that ensures the highest standards in quality, customer service, and regulatory compliance are met.

  • Propose and/or establish corrective and preventive actions as required. Justify, develop, coordinate and implement capital projects within the Plant Operation.

  • Supervise the junior and senior Production Supervisors and other production personnel. Identify and coordinate training as well as professional developmental needs for personnel, including production personnel, to maintain a well prepared workforce.

  • Provide technical expertise (Subject Matter Expert) for the investigation of events related to manufacturing process. Propose and/or establish corrective and preventive actions as required.

  • Assure that Departmental Standard Operating Procedures and Process Descriptions are maintained updated and their content is in compliance with the proper regulatory agencies.

  • Provide technical assistance to Manufacturing, Validation, Maintenance and Systems groups related to the manufacturing processes and equipment. Assist in the execution of validation activities as they relate to the equipment.

  • •Lead the development, recommendation, and execution of improvements to the production processes and equipment, such as yield increase, downtime reduction, cycle time reduction, etc. to improve productivity and compliance.

  • Supervise the evaluation and preparation of formal investigations of process excursions related to production. Establish sound and effective corrective actions to fix root cause of events.

  • Coordinate with Maintenance Department the proper schedule for equipment repair and maintenance, without affecting product throughput. Coordinate activities of all the other support areas such as: Supply Chain, Warehouse, Laboratories, Utilities, S&T, and QA to maintain continuity of the operations.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelors Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline is highly desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence.

  • Desired 8+ years of combined experience in significant engineering and/or operational experience (bulk chemical, pharmaceutical, engineering, utilities, biotechnology, project management). Minimum of three (3) years in supervisory experience in manufacturing environment, and/or process and/or Project management /lead experience.

  • A post-graduate education/degree is desired, and may contribute towards the desired years of experience.

  • Strong decision making, problem solving and leadership skills to manage exempt and non-exempt personnel. Engineering degree is required to understand, lead, review, motivate and communicate to a staff of graduate, professional engineers, and highly technical external consultants.

  • This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to effectively lead in a team environment, adaptable to change, able to manage competing priorities, analytical and problem solving skills, and written and verbal communication skills both in English and Spanish, and a sense of business savvy.

  • Must have ability to focus, take initiative, cope with stress, and use judgment to accomplish results. High level of interpersonal skills to lead and motivate a professional, technical staff, and to deal with all levels of management and professionals within the Company; to interface and negotiate with government agencies personnel, consulting firms and external contractors. The incumbent needs the ability to manage and organize multiple priorities, and achieve results with general guidelines.
