Job Description

Head Clinical Operations Business Insights is a key strategic role within Clinical Development Operations organization (CDO) responsible for data strategy, and visualization activities in support of clinical operation teams for all therapeutic areas within Abbvie portfolio of assets. This role, in partnership with cross functional teams (ex DSS) supports CDO and Development by partnering to build AbbVie’s data assets, applying advanced analytics methodologies, and creating intuitive visualization platform, to provide actionable insight for study planning, execution, tracking, and monitoring. The Data and Business Insight Lead is accountable for vision, road mapping, and implementation of industry leading Business Insight for efficient and fast delivery of AbbVie’s scientific innovations to drive better outcomes for our patients, business, and communities.

Head, Clinical Operations Business Insight is accountable for support of portfolio/program/study business questions with building business capabilities across CDO for predictive analytics capabilities that continually elevate efficient planning and execution efforts. The individual in this role is responsible for partnering closely with senior business leaders, CDO leadership, and other stakeholders to understand their needs, build capabilities, develop analytical solutions, visualization tools, and insights. The right candidate champions organizational learning, embeds good practices, and ensures expertise continues to flourish and develop towards future business needs.

Head, Clinical Operations Business Insight has a broad understanding of drug development, commercialization, therapeutic area knowledge relevant to Abbvie’ assets, internal strategies, and external trends. As the lead on data strategy, utilization of analytical modeling capabilities, and visualization efforts, close partnership with leadership and stakeholders is crucial to ensuring seamless integration of capabilities to support key decisions by providing reliable business insight in alignment with stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a vision for delivery of analytical business solutions of a global clinical operations organization

  • In partnership with cross functional team creates a platform with associated structures and processes for collection and dissemination of data required for insightful and actionable decisions

  • Develop CDO’s data asset strategy by partnering with DSS to obtain and validate information from appropriate and relevant data sources, analyzing internal data, evaluating competitive landscape, and assessing market dynamics.

  • In collaboration with DSS and other teams, guide business through design, delivery, and utilization of strategic analytics, advanced data visualization, and actionable business insights

  • Develop and align on appropriate insights generation plan to support business needs at multiple seniority level within the organization

  • Guide the business by leveraging the full suite of expertise and technological tools available to deliver holistic and integrated business insights to key internal stakeholders

  • Collaborate and contribute to departmental, cross-departmental, enterprise-wide and/or external communities, networks, collaboratives, initiatives or on knowledge-sharing, methodologies, innovations, technology, infrastructure, processes, and systems to enable broader and more effective use of insights and/or analytics to support business

  • Seek opportunities to streamline and improve business operations and technical capabilities of the organization

  • Foster strong connections with business leaders to understand priorities, act as strategic thought partner

  • Regularly assess and adjust priorities based on stakeholder feedback, organizational needs, technological landscape, and strategic relevance

  • Articulate long-term objectives and strategies and clearly convey objectives, deadlines, and stakeholder expectations

  • Persuasively delivering understandings, insights, analyses, and capabilities to senior management to effectively guide important clinical operations decisions

  • Manage timelines and resources to ensure effective work prioritization, allocation, and workload balancing

  • Advise teams to ensure delivery of insightful analyses, compelling storytelling, and objective recommendations

  • Provide ongoing coaching and leadership to effectively execute relevant department objectives, coach and support managers to diagnose and manage issues and risks

  • Attract, develop, and retain high-quality team members; build followership by gaining credibility

  • Build competencies and capabilities of the department; promote innovation and leveraging of learnings and best practices

  • Build a collaborative and supportive culture that rewards innovation and strategic thinking

  • Lead change by example; challenges the status quo with curiosity and adapts new approaches

  • Act, and be accountable for others in his/her team acting, in complete and total compliance with all laws, regulations and policies

  • Empower agile and integrated teams to deliver high-impact results

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PHD degree in Business, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Sciences, or Physical Sciences or related field preferred

  • Twelve or more years industry experience with minimum of 7 years of analytical experience, preferably within pharmaceutical or biotech industry

  • People management experience: manager of local and remote workforce preferred

  • Experience defining and building strategies to drive outcomes aligned to business needs and streamline business operations

  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing business and resource priorities, including deciding how to balance analytical rigor with the need to drive timely business decisions

  • Experience fostering effective people leadership at all levels and developing talent; experience managing through layers preferred

  • Expertise in standard analysis and presentation software

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills

  • Knowledge and/or experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Familiarity with artificial intelligence, machine learning, data aggregation and curation, data visualization, statistical analysis, and modeling tools
  • Data analytics, including familiarity with data analysis tools, techniques, and methodologies as well as various secondary data sources (i.e.., census data, patient-level data, trial registry data, disease, and treatment information etc...)

  • Forecast modeling, including familiarity with patient-based models, trending, uncertainty analyses

  • Resourcing principles, including strategic workforce sizing, structuring, and organizing principles and financial impacts
