Purpose Statement:

The Director of GMA Business Systems will provide overarching leadership for cross-functional technology initiatives and engage with leadership to define the strategy and direction for Veeva Vault MedComms and integrated business processes (e.g., non-promotional content management, digital publishing). Leads teams, strategic initiatives and drives cross-functional collaboration. The role successfully integrates the Digital Content Management capabilities and cross-functional alignment with GMA, other R&D functions, and Commercial to drive effective systems implementations and ongoing maintenance/support. Requires frequent interaction with VP’s, Sr. Leadership, and cross-functional management to provide overall system health summaries, including defect management, user adoption, enhancement/release planning, and related compliance activities.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Partner with AbbVie Sr. Leadership as the MedComms (also known as “The Bridge”) single point of contact and ensure alignment with business objectives and priorities when implementing enhancements and driving system operations.

  • Drive completion of all business project deliverables, including strategic decision-making, stakeholder management, schedule development, budget preparation, and communication. Ensure on-time and within budget implementation of technology projects in partnership with Business Technology Solutions (BTS).

  • Anticipate emerging technology needs; adjust and revise strategy and actions plans accordingly.

  • Maintain a global perspective and a focus on solutions that are easy to access and use, optimizing the employee experience with technology.

  • Sponsor and co-create MedComms operating model, collaborating with Global TAs, Medical Content & Scientific Learning Excellence, Medical Field Excellence, BTS, and third-party providers (e.g., Pharma Advisors, TCS) to effectively support digital content management systems and processes.

  • Oversee MedComms end user training materials. Define requirements, implementation and training plans related to digital asset management and publishing of non-promotional content, working with Global TA and Affiliate medical teams, to drive omnichannel engagement.

  • Represent GMA in regional forums and on cross-functional teams related to MedComms and integrations with other Medical, R&D, and Commercial systems.

  • Present updates to the GMA leadership team on key performance indicators and technology optimization success.

  • Maintain knowledge of current GMA systems (i.e., Veeva CRM, Veeva Vault MedComms, Qlik analytics, Global Medical Information System) and alignment to existing business processes.

  • Remain current in GMA related regulations, AbbVie policies, and new regulations affecting GMA. Accountable for ensuring compliance principles/issues (e.g., Field Medical acceptable practices) are managed with cross-functional partners (legal, regulatory, OEC, etc.) and are built into GMA systems.

Qualifications

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a scientific or business field preferred; bachelor’s degree required. Extensive experience in operations and/or performance (commercial/customer) excellence is highly desirable.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in project management or business transformation role, business technology support or technology implementation role, 10+ years of experience preferred.

  • Supervisory/leadership experience managing people or multiple projects. Experience in leading in a multi-task environment as well as in a virtual and matrix organization.

  • 6 years of experience as the leader of a business systems team, consulting, or technology function. Operations experience as a leader in a Medical Affairs or Commercial organization preferred.

  • Strong/demonstrated knowledge of pharmaceutical regulations, i.e. FDA and European Union and their impact to the organization processes and technology tools.

  • Excellent leadership, self-management and organizational skills; able to manage workload, set personal and team priorities and adjust as needed; financial acumen competence. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship building skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to set and execute on strategies with global and cross-functional and departmental impact.

  • Must exhibit strategic thought and leadership with the ability to think and lead at the big picture level as well as the ability to translate strategic objectives into specific initiatives and manage successful execution.

  • Business acumen related to Medical Education, Medical Information, Field Medical and advanced knowledge of Medical Material Review and digital content publishing processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to articulate and negotiate projects and priorities across functions and/or organizations; proven experience in situations of conflict resolution, problem solving and crisis management.

  • Experience in budget management as well as attention to detail and ability to adequately forecast and adjust accordingly.
