Job Summary

Dominion Energy South Carolina is looking for a Supervisor - Engineering Projects to join our team in Charleston, SC. This is a supervisory position responsible for supervising staff in the day-to-day and tactical operations of project engineering.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Makes sound business recommendations to management on hiring, firing, discipline and pay actions of employees;

  • Leads, directs, schedules, mentors, coaches, trains and develops staff;

  • Assigns and reviews work/workload of staff;

  • Sets and reviews budget, expenditures, priorities, expectations, etc.;

  • Ensures staff performs project planning, design, estimating, permitting, and evaluation functions within all state, federal and company regulations and guidelines that support all New Business, System Enhancement, and Third Party Relocation natural gas distribution infrastructure construction and maintenance projects in the assigned area of DESC Gas;

  • Provides regional expertise, guidance and direction for all real property matters in the assigned region consistent with Corporate guidelines;

  • Collaborates with cross-functional department personnel to ensure the integrity of project engineering design and the efficiency and effectiveness of the DESC gas delivery system as well as to ensure the achievement of DESC Gas’ profitable growth objectives.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking skills, time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills and ability to coach, mentor, train, develop and influence/negotiate with others is preferred.

  • Computer knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office, engineering programs (such as: GIS, AutoCAD, SAP, Synergy, etc.)

  • Ability to develop and manage a budget, as well as schedule and manage workloads to meet project timelines.

  • Thorough knowledge and demonstrated skill in developing cost estimates, permitting and regulatory identification and securing appropriate approval/access for engineering projects.

  • Overnight travel and field site visits are required.

  • Knowledge of natural gas pipeline regulations and procedures within gas operations.

  • Ability to document and communicate standards.

  • Knowledge of gas operations.

  • Knowledge and experience with project management methodology.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, motivate and develop staff in a team environment.

  • Ability to effectively plan and manage multiple activities, resources and time and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Ability to build, collaborate and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated strategic leadership and business acumen.

  • Ability to make critical decisions independently and under pressure.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Effective project management skills, budgeting and cost control, planning and scheduling, establishing, communicating and monitoring scope. (Minimum of 5 years).

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills in working with a diverse work force.

  • Ability to resolve conflicts based on sound judgment and technical reasoning.

  • Knowledge of Regulatory requirements (FERC, OSHA, EPA, DOT, PHMSA, ASME, etc).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates will be registered as an EIT or PE within SC or have the ability to obtain such within six months.

Education Requirements

Required Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree): Bachelor

Preferred Discipline(s): Mechanical or Civil Engineering

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or ,

  • Holds or has previously held a valid Professional Engineer license.
