Generac Power Systems Firmware Engineer IV in North Billerica, Massachusetts

Generac Clean Energy is looking for a motivated Firmware Engineer with insatiable curiosity to help create next generation energy storage products. The successful applicant will join a team of highly knowledgeable and collaborative engineers. You will have the opportunity to solve challenging problems that unlock residential PV and energy storage systems at mass scale.

The position can be based in either our Reno NV office or N. Billerica MA office

Major Responsibilities

Provide new product development support, specific to microprocessors/microcontrollers in the Residential Home Energy Storage area.

Designs, validates, and brings new products to market - specific responsibilities include designing and developing application software/firmware for embedded controllers in C, defining interface requirements, and creating firmware for communication interfaces and/or system algorithms

Design of new control algorithms and performing Applications Engineering

Develop new firmware or software modules, and maintain supporting documentation

Create, design and develop test specifications for new systems and firmware/software.

Conducts and evaluates test specification including testing firmware/hardware

Take part in Design for Manufacturability and Design for Test Activities

Collaborates with internal product development departments, and other core engineering teams such including engines, transfer switch's, alternators, and others as needed to specify interfaces and/or algorithms needed in controls for interface.

Utilizes simulation tools

Create PC based testing tools

Troubleshoot designs to the component level

Proactively train, coach and mentor less experienced Engineers

Participate in design reviews

Collaborate with internal product partners, designers and product specialists to optimize more complex specification for integration

Less than 20% travel

Minimum Job Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or directly related Engineering degree

7 years of experience with embedded programming using languages such as C, C++,C#

Expert level understanding and knowledge of engineering principles

Able to solve intermediate engineering problems; good decision-making skills

Expert level knowledge of communication protocols/hardware interface

Expert level ability to write test firmware to test hardware designs

Advanced ability to use FMEA/DFMEA tools

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
