Position Description

This team works collaboratively on naval engineering contracts supporting the Navy, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and other commercial customers to drive innovation and deliver solutions that address the complex challenges. As we continue to expand our operations and partnerships, we are seeking a visionary and experienced Chief Scientist of Naval Programs to lead our cutting-edge research initiatives from our Norfolk, VA office. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of naval technology.

As the Test Engineer for our US Navy autonomy control systems program, you will be responsible for overseeing the integration, testing, evaluation, and quality assurance/quality control of autonomy software across various naval surface vessel platforms. This critical role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring software functionality, and adhering to stringent US Navy and Department of Defense (DoD) standards.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the integration efforts of autonomy control systems onto naval surface vessels, including 11 meter RHIBS, GARCs, HSMSTs, and other designated platforms.

  • Conduct thorough testing and evaluation of autonomy software to ensure compliance with Navy and DoD standards and requirements.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve software integration issues.

  • Implement quality assurance and quality control measures throughout the integration process to ensure software reliability and performance.

  • Develop and maintain documentation related to integration procedures, test plans, and evaluation reports.

  • Coordinate with Navy stakeholders and participate in technical reviews, on water workups, and demonstrations.

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior integration and quality control/quality assurance team members.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.

  • Extensive experience (8+ years) in software integration, testing, and evaluation within the defense industry, preferably with naval systems.

  • US citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance (post employment)

  • Proficiency in C++ and Python programming languages.

  • Proficiency in Debian, Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.

  • Strong understanding of Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and middleware, particularly DDS RTPS.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of US Navy and DoD acquisition processes, standards, and protocols.

  • Experience with waterfront operations, including hands-on integration and testing activities.

  • Familiarity with naval surface vessel platforms and their operational requirements.

  • Proven leadership abilities, including the capacity to lead integration teams and drive projects to successful completion.

  • Willingness to travel 25% as needed to support integration activities at naval facilities and testing sites.

  • Adherence to strict security protocols and confidentiality requirements in handling sensitive information related to Navy projects.
