Job Description

Are you a mission driven individual who is looking for a meaningful career? This isn't your average mission. Join HII – Mission Technologies (HII-MT) and make a difference by helping to create and maintain modeling and simulation training services and applications for our US Navy Fleet!

HII- Mission Technologies is seeking a System Engineer Intern to support the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) Engineering Sustainment Team (NEST) Engineer is a member of the NCTE Mission Engineering Division (MED). As an intern of the NEST/MED team, you will provide support to critical Navy training events using a mixture of Live, Virtual, and Constructive (i.e. computer generated) (LVC) systems and capabilities. You will also deploy and configure software components – like the Navy Training Baseline (NTB) (e.g., JSAF, JBUS, etc.) across the NCTE enterprise and perform other engineering and project activities to sustain LVC products and integrate capability within the NCTE.

What You Will Do

• Install and configure new NTB software releases, upgrades, and patches.

• Provide engineering related support for NTB setup and configuration during the planning and execution of training events.

• Evaluate and resolve moderately complex software related problems.

• Use systems management software to monitor servers and applications, troubleshoots problems and coordinates with other teams when problems occur.

• Coordinate with software engineers in order to enhance effectiveness of existing NTB toolset as well as to identify candidate controlling and monitoring processes that can be streamlined and automated by NTB software efforts.

• Develop and maintain technical architecture, configuration, and status documentation.

• Develop and monitor policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.

What You Must Have

Education

Must currently be enrolled as a student in an accredited public or private college or university and have more than 40% of required college credits completed. Preference for Software and Computer Engineering degrees. Must hold and be able to maintain a 3.0 GPA while participating in this internship.

Skills

  • Must have an understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems and be able to use capabilities such as (but not limited to): command line interface, scripting, network interface configuration, device configuration, domain management, file sharing/mapping, etc.

  • Understanding of networking concepts, architectures, and transport technologies like TCP/IP

    Security Clearance

    Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Secret clearance. (Current Secret clearance preferred. Clearance must be granted to begin employment).

    Bonus Points For

  • Ability to utilize network and distributed modeling & simulation tools such as Wireshark and PLEXSYS

  • Knowledge of Distributed Simulation protocols such as High Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS)
