Job Description

The primary objective of this position is to perform the full range of payroll processing activities to include calculation of pay, preparation of payroll records for processing, and reconciliation of payroll discrepancies in a timely manner for the semi-monthly payroll and other special payrolls as needed for all Old Dominion University employees, following University policies and procedures, Commonwealth of Virginia policies, Federal and State tax laws, garnishment laws and other governing bodies as required each pay period

Working knowledge of payroll policies and procedures, experience processing payroll. Working knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage-hour regulations, state and federal tax garnishment laws and regulations concerning payroll. Some knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work with data processing systems and complete data entry on a mainframe computer and pc software applications (Excel, Word). Demonstrated ability to perform complex mathematical computations.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people and to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.

Considerable experience working with or processing full payrolls in an automated system. Some experience working with payroll taxes and Federal and State tax laws, customer service experience.

Conditions of Employment
