Synectic Solutions Inc Engineering Technician VI in Norfolk, Virginia

Primary Functions: 

  • Prepare designs and specifications for various complex equipment or systems (e.g., a heating system in an office building, or new electronic components such as solid-state devices for instrumentation equipment).

  • Plan approach to solve design problems.

  • Conceive and recommends new design techniques.

  • Resolve design problems with contract personnel and assures compatibility of design with other parts of the system.

  • Design and coordinate test set-ups and experiments to prove or disprove the feasibility of preliminary design.

  • Use untried and untested measurement techniques; and improves the performance of the equipment.

  • Advise equipment users on redesign to solve unique operational deficiencies; plans approach and conducts various experiments to develop equipment or systems characterized by:

  • (a) difficult performance requirements because of conflicting attributes such as versatility, size, and ease of operation

  • (b) unusual combination of techniques or components.

  • Arrange for fabrication of pilot models and determines test procedures and design of special test equipment.

    Education/Experience/Skills:

  • U.S. Citizenship and Active DoD Secret Clearance 

  • Associate degree in engineering technology, math, or science; or Formal electronics training from: Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications; or four-year electronics apprentice program; or High School diploma or GED.

  • 12 years with degree/formal training or 14 years with HS/GED of practical experience to include: design, preparation and modification of engineering documents, and drawings.

  • Notable experience preparing designs and specifications for various complex equipment or systems (e.g., a heating system in an office building, or new electronic components such as solid-state devices for instrumentation equipment)

  • Hands on experience planning an approach to solve design problems.

  • Experience recommending new design techniques.

  • Knowledge of test set-ups and experiments to prove or disprove the feasibility of preliminary design.

  • Understanding of unique operational deficiencies; plans approach and conducts various experiments to develop equipment or systems.

  • Experience determining test procedures and design of special test equipment.

  • Independently planning and accomplishing complete projects or studies of broad scope and complexity or serving as an expert in a narrow aspect of a particular field of engineering, e.g., environmental factors affecting electronic engineering. Individual may supervise or train and be assisted by lower-level technicians.

    All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
